Even though most fans have quietly given up on George Miller's would-be Justice League film over the past year or so, Hollywood certainly hasn't forgotten about Warner Bros.' flagship superhero property—especially now that DC Entertainment has been formed to specifically serve those interests.
Case in point: A recent Risky Biz Blog post regarding the yet-to-be released "Sherlock Holmes" movie mentions a writing team Splash Page readers may remember.
According to the blog, Warner Bros. plans to have, "Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its 'Justice League: Mortal' tentpole" write a "Sherlock" sequel. Read more...
"The Dark Knight" was a proven success, both critically and financially. If fan reaction can be believed, Warner Bros. seems to be pushing all the right buttons for an upcoming "Green Lantern" feature film to follow suit. Mention a "Superman" revamp, a "Wonder Woman" casting rumor or the latest scuttlebutt on Marvel's sure-to-be-geekgasmic "Avengers" project, and watch the message boards light up.
Clearly fans want to see what would arguably be the Holy Grail of comic book flicks, "Justice League," but given all of the news lately regarding a possible "JLA" flick being delayed indefinitely, should we even bother getting our hopes up? Attached director George Miller thinks so...just don't hold your breath. Read more...
Hey, remember when we told you about those reports that director George Miller had parted ways with the live-action "Justice League" movie? Well, the reports of that relationship's demise seem to have been greatly exaggerated -- and the "Mad Max" director remains at the helm of the troubled "Justice League" film.
After Dark Horizons reported yesterday that Miller told a Sydney news outlet he was no longer connected with the Warner Bros project, the report disappeared mysteriously from the movie site a few hours later. The crew at ComingSoon.net later posted some clarification they received from one of Miller's representatives. Read more...
The saga of the live-action "Justice League" movie seems to have hit yet another snag, as Australian filmmaker George Miller now appears to have severed any ties with the on-again, off-again project. According to Dark Horizons, Miller told a Sydney morning show earlier today that he is no longer involved in "Justice League" in any capacity.
Back in September, we heard from the film's Batman actor, Armie Hammer, just a few weeks after news surfaced that Australian actress/model Megan Gale was cast as Wonder Woman. However, now it seems that casting might have played a role in the film's troubles, as Miller reportedly told the show's audience that if the film was ever going to be made, it would likely be recast because "the studios seem to want bigger stars in their superhero movies now."
On a side note, the "Mad Max" director added that he would like to work with Mel Gibson again at some point -- which could mean our hopes for a Martian Manhunter played by Gibson could be inching ever closer to becoming reality.
Are you disappointed about Miller's departure? Do you think this film will ever be made? Sound off in the comment section!
Well, here's an interview that should pique fanboy curiousity. E! Online recently spoke with actor Armie Hammer, who is/was scheduled to play Batman in the on-again, off-again live-action "Justice League: Mortal" film.
Back in early August, we brought you the news that director George Miller had picked Aussie actress Megan Gale to play Wonder Woman, making it appear as if the much-anticipated film would finally move forward after delays due to tax-credit issues and the Writers Guild strike. Just a few weeks later, Warner Bros. and DC seemed to sound the death knell for the project in a report about the companies' future plans for DC-related properties. After spending months training for the physical rigors of being DC's Dark Knight, Hammer said he hopes the rumors of "Justice League's" demise have been exaggerated.
"It was very intense. Our workout regimens were so rigorous that most of us would vomit," Hammer told E! "We weren't trying to get ourselves aesthetically good looking. We were trying to get ready for the demands of shooting." Read more...
Word outta Hollywood is "Justice League of America" director George Miller may have found his Wonder Woman.
According to a recent interview with Miller published in Australia's Herald Sun, Aussie supermodel and actress Megan Gale "blitzed her competition" after reading for the part of the Amazonian Princess and Justice League staple, stunning the award-winning director with her acting chops and fueling rumors that she's been offered the role. Gale had been long-rumored to have snagged the role. Previously, Jessica Biel had been in talks to don the famous bracelets but reportedly passed on the part.
Short of a cameo role in 2005's "Stealth", Gale is a relative unknown stateside, but has appeared in numerous Italian films and several news and entertianment programs for Australian television. Read more...
