"G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra" hit shelves this week, and we have an exclusive peek at one of the special features found on the discs. In the following clip, the "G.I. Joe" crew reveals what it took to create one of the film's explosive scenes:

Many folks knew G.I. Joe from the toys and the cartoon. The cartoon series was fun, but let's face it — it was also pretty cheesy. After all, how do you take a series about counter-terrorists seriously when no one ever gets hurt and the guns only shoot little beams of light that always seem to miss?
The "G.I. Joe" comics, on the other hand, have always been a horse of a different color, delving into darker themes and with a more serious tone of military life and espionage. And they’ve been around longer than you may think.

On this side of the big pond, Snake Eyes, Duke, Scarlett and the rest of the bunch have always been the "Real American Heroes" of television, movies and comic books known as "G.I. Joe." But when we sat down for a chat with "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" cast members Rachel Nichols (Scarlett) and Sienna Miller (Baroness), the latter told us that she knew the "Joe" squad by a different name entirely.
"I was brought up in England where we didn't have 'G.I. Joe,' we had 'Action Man,'" Miller told MTV News. "So I didn't know an awful lot about G.I. Joe."
While the pair confessed that Barbie was more familiar to them than the G.I. Joe squad, they did share some details about which of their fellow cast members were the resident Joe geeks. Check out the video to find out who they name-dropped in our "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" interview.

The existence of "G.I. Joe" comic books aside, many of the stars of this weekend's upcoming "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" have a good amount in common with the paneled page. From the mighty shield of Captain America to a Robin that never was, the following five actors have interesting ties — some stronger than others — to the comic book medium.
RAY PARK: It's hard to forget Ray Park's menacing turn as Darth Maul, the dual-lightsaber twirling villain of "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," but the man behind the mask of Snake Eyes has some curious ties to the comic book kingdom. Not only was he long-rumored for the role of Danny Rand in an "Iron Fist" adaptation, Park actually played Toad in the very first live-action "X-Men" film.
That's not even mentioning the actor's upcoming role in "Heroes." Park will play a fast-moving, knife-twirling villain on the show. Interestingly, "Rise of Cobra" actor Christopher Eccleston — who plays Destro in the movie — has also appeared on "Heroes" as a super-powered invisible man. Read More...

It's almost time for "G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra" to blast its way onto movie screens across the U.S., and since Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Duke and their crew have had a long history in comics, we're looking forward to finding out how well the Real American Heroes handle their trip to the live-action world.
To that end, when "G.I. Joe" actors Channing Tatum (Duke) and Marlon Wayans (Ripcord) sat down with MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg, he made sure to ask them who the biggest "Joe" fan on the set was and what he thought of the production. It turns out that the actor who could've offered the most insight on the property was also the actor who took a vow of silence to bring the G.I. Joe team's most popular member to life.
"Ray Park was the biggest 'Joe' expert," said Wayans of the actor playing the team's silent ninja, Snake Eyes, in the film. "Only thing is, he wouldn't share information because he couldn't talk." Read More...

"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" actors Marlon Wayans and Channing Tatum have both been connected with famous superhero roles, with Wayans nearly playing Robin in "Batman Returns" and Tatum landing in rumors regarding Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger."
The big difference is that Wayans is still making income from his near-miss more than a decade ago.
"I was actually supposed to play Robin, in 'Batman Returns,' about 15 years ago," Wayans told io9. "But there were too many characters."
And though Chris O'Donnell became The Boy Wonder when Joel Schumacher took over the franchise in "Batman Forever," Wayans still enjoys some lasting benefits from his favor with Tim Burton. Read More...

FROM MTV MOVIES: There are a lot of fan expectations riding on a movie like "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." Between the long-running comic book line and the multiple TV series, it is a treasured franchise to many people.
When we sat down with stars Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans, the big question was how much background knowledge each performer brought to their role.
"We all kinda read up on it," said Tatum, who played Duke. "I don't know who was the 'Joe' expert."

FROM MTV MOVIES: These are strange times we live in. People my age grew up playing with 12-inch-tall versions of "G.I. Joe" characters, imagining wondrous adventures as we grew up in the '80s. Now, Hollywood is bringing back "Transformers," "Smurfs" and all the rest — and risking our beloved memories as they attempt to see if we're still interested.
A little while back, the surreal became real as I walked around the set of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and witnessed elaborate props and highly paid stars attempting to re-create what we used to do in our backyards for free. And what I saw had this lifelong fan of the franchise thinking, "Yo, Joe!" as often as it did "No, Joe!"
"Today I'm fighting; I'm always fighting," laughed "Star Wars" veteran Ray Park, who landed the coveted role of Snake Eyes in the film.

It's going to be an expensive week for comic book readers. Not only is Marvel Comics flooding the shelves with 40 new issues, but various other publishers are bringing their A-game to the week's releases, too.
What should readers with an eye toward movie/television crossover projects be adding to their lists? Here's a good place to start:
"G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA" #1 - OFFICIAL MOVIE ADAPTATION (IDW): We gave you a sneak peek at this comic back in May, and as any longtime comics fan will tell you, there's been a lot of great G.I. Joe stories told in comics over the years. IDW's already proven they're up to the task of doing great work with licensed properties like Transformers and Angel, so there's reason to be optimistic about their take on the world of the "G.I. Earlier today, we gave you a peek at the "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" clip that aired during the MTV Movie Awards, but now the full clip is up on MTV.com. Since I know we have some "G.I. Joe" fans here on Splash Page, here's all the footage that aired during the show tonight:
Featuring Channing Tatum (Duke), Sienna Miller (Baroness), Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) and Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), the new footage not only shows off the actors playing the "Real American Heroes," but also some of the vehicles that were such a big part of the G.I. Joe toy line. Well, not these vehicles, exactly -- but you get the idea.
