Seth Rogen's planned adaptation of "The Green Hornet" might be getting a little help from Heaven above -- or, if nothing else, the film could be touched by an "Angel."
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Cameron Diaz, she of the "Charlie's Angels" franchise, could be playing the female lead opposite Rogen in the Michel Gondry-directed "The Green Hornet." While a deal has yet to be signed, EW indicates that the actress is in early talks for the role. Read more...
If you've been looking forward to Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry's live-action "Green Hornet" movie, it looks like you'll have to wait a little longer to see the pulp hero's upcoming return to the big screen. Sony announced today that it's moving the release date of "Green Hornet" from June 25 to July 9, 2010.
According to Variety, the move was made to allow room for the studio's Adam Sandler-penned comedy, "Grown Ups," which will feature Sandler and a long list of other popular comedy actors. While "Grown Ups" is currently the only film scheduled to open June 25, Rogen and "Green Hornet" co-star Stephen Chow will now go up against the animated film "Despicable Me" and the Robert Rodriguez film "Predators." Honestly, I never thought I'd say this, but it really is a good time to be a "Green Hornet" fan these days.
While I'll admit not being very up-to-date with my knowledge of Britt Reid and Kato's adventures, the combination of an upcoming Michel Gondry movie starring Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow, as well as a comic book series written by Kevin Smith, makes it pretty darn likely that everyone is going to know a lot more about the classic character soon enough. And if certain rumors prove true, there could a new online series on the way, too. Read more...
By now you know that Seth Rogen has a film adaptation of "Green Hornet" in the works with director Michel Gondry, but what you might not know is that comics writer and filmmaker Kevin Smith was once attached to write and direct an adaptation of that very same character. While Smith's film never got off the ground, he's getting a second crack at the masked crime-fighter in an upcoming comic book series for Dynamite Entertainment.
We got the details from the veteran creator when he dropped by Splash Page HQ this week, and along with telling us why his upcoming "Batman: The Widening Gyre" series for DC could be his last Batman story ever, Smith explained why he had lots of opportunities to discuss "Green Hornet" with Rogen, but avoided the subject entirely.
According to Smith, he initially turned down the "Green Hornet" series due to his past problems launching the film, and told Dynamite publisher Nick Barrucci, "I've been down the 'Hornet' road and it never works out for me." Read more...
Megan Fox has earned herself a good chunk of geek cred with starring roles in both "Transformers" films, but she's just now starting to cross over into the land of comic book cinema. The 22-year-old actress claims to have been a lifelong comic reader with a penchant for the late Michael Turner's artwork -- which is why her upcoming turn as the lead character in "Fathom" is nothing short of a dream come true.
"['Fathom' is] a comic book property by my favorite artist, Michael Turner," Fox told USA Weekend during a photo shoot with herself and soon-to-be "Green Hornet" star Seth Rogen. "It's about this underwater race of people, and it's plausible, really, because so much of the ocean is unexplored. We don't really know what's under there. It could be happening, which I like." Don’t look now, but old radio serials are suddenly hotter than any Wii game or iPhone app. These days, visionary director Michel Gondry is hard at work with Seth Rogen bringing back “The Green Hornet,” Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp are gaining momentum on “The Lone Ranger,” and the two worlds are making plans to meet. Well, kinda.
Flashback to January 31, 1936, when a new program entitled “The Green Hornet” premiered on Detroit radio station WXYZ. Envisioned as a worlds-away spinoff to the immensely popular show “The Lone Ranger,” masked crimefighter Britt Reid was explained to be the son of LR’s comic-relief nephew Dan. Although their connection faded as Green Hornet became more closely linked with Batman in their '60s TV shows, it returned as recently as the late-'80s when a “Hornet” comic book series published by NOW Comics had a portrait of The Lone Ranger hanging on Reid’s wall, a sly reference to their familial ties. 2009 is shaping up to be another banner year for "Knocked Up" star Seth Rogen. In addition to voicing a wisecracking blue blob named B.O.B. in the DreamWorks' 3-D animated film "Monsters vs. Aliens," Rogen is scheduled to “Observe and Report” for director Jody Hill in April and, well... be a funny person in Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” this July.
But the movie he’s currently buzzing about is "The Green Hornet," which Michel Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) will now direct for Columbia after Stephen Chow ("Kung Fu Hustle") exited the director's chair. Despite the switch, Rogen told MTV News that Chow is still very much involved with the project, although he has still not officially signed on to play Brit Reid’s sidekick, Kato. Read more...
