While "Green Lantern" won't film in Australia due to insurmountable financial difficulties, that doesn't mean the DC Comics superhero is grounded for good — indeed, the character is zipping towards New Orleans with director Martin Campbell and actor Ryan Reynolds fully at the helm.
Campbell spoke with Empire Online (via The Geek Files) about the alleged move of "Green Lantern" to New Orleans, a city he praised for its "damn good tax rate." Ultimately, the city itself won't matter too much regarding the visuals of "Green Lantern," given the film's space-heavy presence.
"He's the only superhero to my knowledge who regularly goes to another planet," said Campbell. "Superman and Batman were essentially locked into a particular city. The Lantern isn't so Earthbound." Read more...
The color green turned on Hal Jordan recently when "Green Lantern" had to pull out of its Australian shooting locations due to economic issues—but it appears that a new location may already be locked in for the DC Comics adaptation, and it's not Mexico as some had guessed.
According to The Times-Picayune, "Green Lantern" could very well lens in New Orleans, Louisiana. The manager of studio operations at the New Orleans-based Second Line Stages reported that producers for "Green Lantern" have contacted him about the studio space, and that "'Green Lantern' production offices could be set up in town as early as this week."
If the move pans out, it's great to hear that "Green Lantern" has already bounced back with a new location. Still, that's not the only interesting bit of news buried in the Times-Picayune's article, which posits an interesting rumor about DC's on-screen plans for a "Justice League" movie. Read more...
Shortly after receiving an Oscar nomination for "Little Children," the Internet began buzzing with fans insisting that Jackie Earle Haley would make an ideal Rorschach in the "Watchmen" movie. When "Watchmen" hit theaters, many fans began lobbying for Haley to become the new Freddy Krueger.
Now, with "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in the can, Haley showed up to Saturday's Spike TV "Scream Awards" having just learned about another possible gig from the Internet: playing the supervillain Sinestro in "Green Lantern."
"I just heard about this, literally," Haley told MTV News of an anonymously sourced report on Ain't It Cool News claiming he will be offered the role of arch-enemy to Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan in the soon-to-shoot blockbuster. Read more...

Ryan Reynolds may be tackling the roles of two of comics' toughest characters, but that doesn't mean he's immune from the power of Hollywood secrecy. Appearing as a guest on last evening's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," the actor seemed stoked about portraying both Green Lantern and Deadpool – even if he had to keep his reasons to himself for the most part.

The “Green Lantern” feature film may soon be moving its beleaguered production to Mexico; which would negate the previously rumored shift to Louisiana.
According to Inside Film, the decision hasn’t been finalized yet. But if the production were to remain in Australia, it would cost an additional $20 million to make.
The site quotes an anonymous source allegedly connected with the studio as saying, “We still haven’t given up on ‘Green Lantern,' but the way the exchange rate is going up it’s looking more and more unlikely.” Read more...

To date, Ryan Reynolds is the only known cast member of the upcoming Martin Campbell-directed "Green Lantern," but a recent casting call has offered a first glimpse into the other characters surrounding Hal Jordan in the DC Comics adaptation.
According to SpoilerTV, an allegedly official casting notice reveals four familiar characters that will appear in Hal Jordan's first live-action flight -- Carol Ferris, Dr. Hector Hammond, Sinestro and Abin Sur. While the authenticity of the casting call can't be verified just yet, it nonetheless provides some interesting possibilities about "Green Lantern."
In the comics, Carol Ferris is an occasional love interest of Hal Jordan's. Carol runs the Ferris Aircraft business for her ailing father, has a strict no-dating-employees policy, which interferes with her and Hal's romance. The casting call's description of Carol as a 26-32 year old work-a-holic sounds pretty on the money. Read more...

Now that Ryan Reynolds has scored the plum role of Hal Jordan, it's worth wondering how the rest of the "Green Lantern" cast will shake out. While his presence in the film isn't officially known, it's very likely that Sinestro—Jordan's former mentor turned nemesis—could play a role in the movie.

Although the coveted role of Hal Jordan in "Green Lantern" eventually went to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Ryan Reynolds, the occasional Deadpool had plenty of actors to compete with, including long-rumored frontrunner Bradley Cooper.
Now that Reynolds has officially been cast, Cooper felt free to speak about the missed opportunity and audition process for "Green Lantern" on last night's edition of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. The actor said that while he was grateful for the opportunity, Reynolds was a better fit for the role.
"I did get a chance to try out for it, which was amazing to even get a chance," Cooper told O'Brien. "Ryan Reynolds got it—who, by the way, if I was directing the movie, I would cast him. He's perfect. He actually looks like a superhero." Read more...
