Hector Hammond's got daddy issues coming his way in the form of Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Robbins has joined the cast of "Green Lantern," Martin Campbell's film adaptation of the DC Comics property. Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of Doctor Hector Hammond, played in the film by Peter Sarsgaard.
Robbins is the latest notable actor to sign on for "Green Lantern," joining the likes of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as love interest Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as the traitorous Sinestro and the aforementioned Sarsgaard as the telepathic Hector Hammond. Read more...
We've discovered how much of Hal Jordan's upcoming, big-screen adventure will occur in space, asked Ryan Reynolds to recite the Green Lantern oath, brought you the exclusive news of Mark Strong playing Sinestro, and even showed off some concept art from the film over the last few months — so what's missing from our coverage of Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern" movie?
How about a giant, green fist?
Asked about the objects the Green Lantern(s) will create during the film, Campbell took time out of the "Edge of Darkness" junket to drop some information about the powers DC's ringbearer will wield. Read more...
Before Ryan Reynolds was chosen to play the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, it was easier to keep track of the actors who weren't rumored to be up for the role than all of the potential Hal Jordans suggested by "insider sources" at various movie blogs.
Back in October 2008, one "Green Lantern" rumor had "The Notebook" star Ryan Gosling pegged for the role. Even though we now know that the DC hero will be played by Reynolds (and the outlets that sparked the rumor later exchanged Gosling for "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine in another casting rumor that was eventually debunked), when we had a chance to catch up with Gosling during the Sundance Film Festival, we had to ask how much of the rumor was true.
"I don't know," said Gosling, in town for the premiere of "Blue Valentine" at the film festival. "Those movies are really hard and you have to be a really good actor to do that stuff. To pretend like something's chasing you that's not chasing you? All of that stuff, that's tough." Read more...
As "Green Lantern" prepares for a March production start, the size and scope of the film is getting clearer. Thanks to word from director Martin Campbell himself, we know that Hal Jordan is flying into space and encountering a wide range of Green Lantern Corps members including Kilowog. What we don't know is what these space-faring characters are going to look like — but a set of purported concept images could give us a good idea.
Cosmic Book News has posted what they believe to be concept art from the upcoming "Green Lantern" film, though they are quick to note that the images could be false. If accurate, however, this is certainly the best look yet at concept designs for characters like Kilowog, Abin Sur and Tomar-Re. Read more...
Much of the current "Green Lantern" speculation focuses on whether Hector Hammond or Sinestro will be the first film's central villain, but there's another question fans are asking these days, too: how much of the movie is set in space?
Given the intergalactic setting of the "Green Lantern" mythology, it's a virtual certainty that the upcoming DC Comics adaptation will spend some time amongst the stars, but just how much otherworldly screen time we'll see remains up in the air.
While the "Edge of Darkness" director didn't have an exact percentage of the balance between space scenes and earthbound events, director Martin Campbell told MTV News that there would be plenty of action spent outside of Earth's orbit. Read more...
The cast for "Green Lantern" is starting to fill out. Over the last several weeks, the previously cast Ryan Reynolds has been joined by "Gossip Girl" leading lady Blake Lively as Hal Jordan's love interest Carol Ferris, "An Education" star Peter Sarsgaard as the villainous Hector Hammond and "Sherlock Holmes" bad guy Mark Strong as Sinestro, Hal's mentor turned nemesis.
While there are still other actors remaining to join Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern," Reynolds could only speak to the cast members that are officially on board — specifically Lively, who the eventual defender of Space Sector 2814 described as a perfect fit for the film's female lead. In brightest day of Sundance's fog, does Ryan Reynolds know Green Lantern's song? That's the question that MTV News put to the "Green Lantern" star during the Sundance Film Festival this weekend — and sadly, the answer is sure to disappoint fans of the DC Comics franchise.
While Reynolds insisted that he knows the Green Lantern Oath by heart, the actor refused to recite it when requested by MTV's Josh Horowitz.
"I'm not doing the oath for you on national internet," Reynolds declared, staring directly into the camera's lens. "Of course I know the Oath — the Oath is very simple — but no, Josh, I'm absolutely not doing it." Read more...
Casting for the roles of Hal Jordan, Carol Ferris, Hector Hammond and Sinestro is already finished on the "Green Lantern" front, but there's still no word on who will play Kilowog.
Director Martin Campbell already confirmed that Kilowog, the hulking pink alien Green Lantern Corps member, would have a role in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation. While he's not likely to have the same amount of screen time as the aforementioned main characters, Kilowog nonetheless needs an excellent actor behind that brutish mug.
As is the Secret Identity tradition, here are five actors that would do a tremendous job bringing Kilowog to life in "Green Lantern." Read more...
In a recent exclusive interview, director Martin Campbell revealed to MTV News that Mark Strong is in talks to play Sinestro in "Green Lantern," effectively ending rumors of Jackie Earle Haley's involvement in the superhero film. Still, Sinestro's participation in the movie's events doesn't necessarily mean that the character will appear as a villain.
Campbell spoke with Superhero Hype about Sinestro's role in "Green Lantern," stating that while the character is likely to show his villainous colors at some point, the revelation might wait for an eventual sequel.

On Friday, we were first to bring you the news that "Sherlock Holmes" actor Mark Strong was in talks to play Sinestro in the "Green Lantern" movie. Along with that exclusive scoop, director Martin Campbell also gave MTV News a list of characters from Green Lantern's universe that would be appearing in the film.
And while we were on the subject, we had to ask about another high-profile DC character rumored to make a cameo.
"No, that won't happen," Campbell told MTV News when asked about the chances of Superman (or possibly Clark Kent) appearing in "Green Lantern" in some form. Read more...
