WatchmenLast week, we asked MTV readers to vote on their favorite comic book movie of 2009, and now the votes are in!

With more than 50 percent of the total votes, "Watchmen" was the top choice among fans — and by a wide margin, too. When all the votes were tallied, Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation of the classic Alan Moore graphic novel was the clear-cut winner over "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which received half as many votes to nab the second-place spot.

However, while many predicted a victory by Rorschach, Nite Owl and the rest of "Watchmen" cast, there were some surprises in the final vote — namely among the animated features. Read more...

X-Men Origins: WolverineIt's that time of year when we run down our favorite projects from the world of comics and comic book movies, folks. And while that's all well and good, this year I want to make sure Splash Page readers have a say in all the "Best Of" madness, too!

Next week, we're rolling out bunches of "Best Of" lists covering our favorite books, series, films and anything else that made big waves around Splash Page HQ over the last year — and along with rolling out our own picks, we'll reveal your pick for the best comic book movie of 2009.

Was "Wolverine" the best there was at what it did (this year)? Has distance (and the rest of the year's films) made you fonder of "Watchmen"? Or was one of this year's animated movies (i.e., "Hulk Vs." or "Green Lantern: First Flight") better than anything the live-action world had to offer? Read more...

Long before Ryan Reynolds appears in the live-action "Green Lantern" movie, DC's Emerald Knight will on screen in animated form in the upcoming, feature-length film "Green Lantern: First Flight." Along with actor Chris Meloni voicing Hal Jordan, the all-star cast includes "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum Juliet Landau (as Labella), Michael Madsen (Kilowog), Tricia Helfer (Boodikka) and Victor Garber (Sinestro). And now you can see the first four minutes of the film exclusively here on Splash Page! Check it out:

While the clip gives you a look at how Jordan becomes the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, fans who are heading to Comic-Con International next week don't have to wait long to see the rest of the "First Flight" story. The entire film will be screened on Thursday, July 23, at the convention.

"Green Lantern: First Flight" will hit DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, July 28.

What did you think of the clip? Planning to pick up "Green Lantern: First Flight"?

Green Lantern: First Flight"Battlestar Galactica" veteran Tricia Helfer -- who played the sometimes benevolent but often nefarious Number Six on the series -- is bringing a "strong and sweet" sensibility to her latest role in the comic book world, Boodikka in "Green Lantern: First Flight."

In the DC Universe animated film, Helfer's character is one of many in the Green Lantern Corps, sometimes finding herself at odds with Hal Jordan, voiced by Christopher Meloni. Helfer described Boodikka as a character with a lot of strength -- even if others around her wouldn't necessarily agree.

"Boodikka's a fighter, a protector," Helfer explained. "She is very honorable in that she does what she thinks is right, even if some things go against the grain. She's certainly not an evil character per se, but she does things that she thinks are good for society. She's not really sexy in terms of her personality, so she's not trying to reel Hal in -- that relationship is more like comrades. So I wanted to play Boodikka both strong and sweet." Read more...

Green Lantern First Flight"Wonder Woman" producer Bruce Timm and director Lauren Montgomery had very little time between that film and their work on "Green Lantern: First Flight," but luckily they had a sturdy crutch to lean on -- Jose Lopez.

Lopez is responsible for a large portion of the designs in "First Flight," Timm told reporters, and his work on the project was the exact fresh take Timm wanted in order to distinguish the film from his "Justice League" animated series. Read more...

Green LanternFrom the beloved "Batman: The Animated Series" to the latest string of DC Universe animated movies, casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano is owed tremendous thanks for picking out the voice talent for the bulk of DC's cartoon properties. It's certainly no different for "Green Lantern: First Flight," the fifth DC Universe animated original film -- except this time, Romano cast the four lead roles with actors that had done little to no voiceover work in the past.

Upon hearing the final product, however, Romano claims you can't even tell that her actors are new to the animated scene. Read more...

Green Lantern: First Flight"Green Lantern: First Flight" is getting closer and closer to its July release date, meaning that the press machine is rolling along just fine. We've already heard from director Lauren Montgomery, screenwriter Alan Burnett and actors Victor Garber and Juliet Landau, and now Michael Madsen is the latest participant to discuss his role as Kilowog in the project.

"I was quite humbled by being asked to play Kilowog in the first place," Madsen said of joining the "Green Lantern" cast. "I don't often get asked to voice animated characters, and I've always wanted to do something like that -- it's great fun for me." Read more...

Green Lantern: First FlightAs the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, Hal Jordan is responsible for the well-being of everybody and everything on Earth. But with a Machiavellian partner like Sinestro showing him the ropes, Hal Jordan's experience in "Green Lantern: First Flight" promises to be a lot more like the Denzel Washington-starring "Training Day" than any DC Comics adventure before it -- according to the film's writer, that is.

"[Warner Bros. Animation] had been going through some ideas for Green Lantern stories and none of them were quite working out," said screenwriter Alan Burnett. "So, I just pitched it to them in one line, 'Have you ever done Green Lantern as Training Day?' with the idea of the Denzel Washington role being Sinestro. They said, 'That sounds pretty good -- start writing.' And that's how it began." Read more...

Labella in 'Green Lantern: First Flight'It's been well publicized that Chris Meloni, Victor Garber, Tricia Helfer and Michael Madsen would headline "Green Lantern: First Flight" as Hal Jordan, Sinestro, Boodika and Kilowog, respectively. But there's another geek-friendly actress involved that you may not know about: Juliet Landau.

Landau is best known for playing Drusilla in Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire" and "Angel" television series, though she'll soon appear in the animated "Green Lantern" flick as the voice of Labella. Landau says that her performance was almost second nature and that she instinctively knew exactly how the character would sound. Read more...

Boodikka in 'Green Lantern: First Flight'There's no doubt that the upcoming live-action "Green Lantern" film is hogging online attention lately, but don't discount "Green Lantern: First Flight," the DC Universe animated movie heading to DVD and Blu-Ray in July. Focused specifically on Hal Jordan's space-oriented mythos, the cartoon adventure is sure to boast plenty of laughs, sci-fi goodness and action thanks to the watchful eye of Lauren Montgomery.

As the director of the March-released "Wonder Woman" animated feature, Montgomery has some experience with what makes the DC Universe tick from both a storytelling and visual standpoint. And if you asked the talented animation maven herself, she'd tell you that the voice actors behind "First Flight" have a similar level of understanding and ability. Read more...
