Hawkeye

We're guessing you'll want this "Avengers" Hawkeye toy, just announced by Marvel Select for preorder. If you want to know something about Hawkeye and the part he'll play in "The Avengers," Jeremy Renner is not the man to ask. MTV News caught up with the actor while he was promoting "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," and he plead the fifth when it came to his Marvel Comics alter-ego and "The Avengers."

Hawkeye's an interesting character and a fan favorite from the comics. What does Renner have to add to what fans already know about the character? "A bow and arrow. He's good with it," Renner said. "I can't give you anything on that one."

The biennial D23 Expo took place this past weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center, where fans and reporters were treated to an early look at all things Disney. But of everything the company currently has in the pipeline, the project that had everyone the most excited was “The Avengers.”

While the new footage debuted at the show hasn’t made it to the Internet (not yet, at least), MTV News did manage to catch up with many of the 2012 film’s stars, including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow). While the castmembers were reluctant to give anything away about the heavily anticipated superhero team-up flick’s plot, they were willing to talk about how surreal it was when the Avengers finally assembled.

“That was pretty crazy,” Hemsworth admitted. “It was not only meeting Robert Downey and Scarlett and whoever, but it was meeting Iron Man and Black Widow and Hulk…. [I]t’s exciting.”

Johansson agreed with Hemsworth, mentioning that one of her favorite moments was when the cast was all brought together. Perhaps surprisingly, her co-star, Renner, explained that there were only two days when the entire team was on set at the same time.

Jeremy RennerFor years, Marvel has had the habit of seeding their movies with teases to other upcoming film projects -- and it looks like this summer's "Thor" is no different. Who better to go up against a demigod with a magical hammer than... an archer?!

During a presentation by Walt Disney Pictures today at the theater owners' event CinemaCon, attendees were surprised when the House of Mouse showed a sizzle reel with footage from Marvel movies past, present and future. Amongst the moving pictures on display was new footage from "Thor," including an eye-opening shot of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

"The Avengers" hits theaters in 2012, bringing together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and a host of other Marvel Comics heroes in one massive team-up event. While each of the aforementioned characters will have made their debut in a solo movie (or two) by the time "Avengers" premieres, the film will also feature a few other well-known heroes — including Jeremy Renner as super-marksman Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye.

MTV News caught up with Renner on the Oscars red carpet to get a few more details about his upcoming debut as the Avengers' expert archer, and how much he's seen of the "Avengers" script.

"Yes, I have [read the 'Avengers' script]," Renner told MTV News. "It's tremendous. I can't tell you anything about it." Read More...

Jeremy RennerJeremy Renner was outed as the front runner for Hawkeye months in advance of his finalized casting, with a report from last year suggesting that he'd play the avenging archer not just in "The Avengers," but also in "Thor."

While Renner is clearly playing Hawkeye in the superhero team-up movie, now it appears that he really does have a role to play in "Thor" as well. The Wrap reports that the "Hurt Locker" actor will mark his first performance as Clint Barton in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" adaptation, set to arrive in theaters next May.

Supposed insiders refused to comment on the context of Hawkeye's appearance, the duration of his involvement and when in the film his scenes take place. They did state, however, that Samuel L. Jackson won't appear in "Thor" as Nick Fury. Read More...

Jeremy RennerJeremy Renner won't be making it home for Thanksgiving, but he's hardly complaining. He's currently hanging in Dubai with Tom Cruise as the duo shoots the next "Mission: Impossible." Such is life for this new Hollywood breakout star.

Following his Oscar-nominated turn in "The Hurt Locker," the 39-year-old actor nabbed that meaty role in "Mission," as well as the part of Hawkeye in "The Avengers." Impressive stuff.

That's why MTV News is honoring Renner as one of the people we're most thankful for in 2010. We recently chatted up the actor about "Mission: Impossible" and the projects on his plate these days, but we also dived a bit more deeply into "Avengers," as Renner discussed his ideas for Hawkeye and why he's been texting co-star Robert Downey Jr.

In fact, we started talking about "Avengers" almost as soon as Renner called us up from Dubai. "I was just texting with Downey before I called you," he said. Read More...

The official announcement of Jeremy Renner's involvement with "The Avengers" came just two short months ago, but whispers of his involvement predate the announcement by almost a full year. In fact, Renner's relationship with the major Marvel franchise goes back even further — at least, his relationship with director Joss Whedon does.

"I've known Joss actually for a long while from doing a little arc on 'Angel,' which was fun," Renner told MTV News, referring to Penn, a centuries old vampire who eventually adopted the serial killer moniker "The Pope."

Based on his past experience working with Whedon, Renner feels confident that the director has a solid grasp on "The Avengers" and the greater Marvel Universe. Read More...

We're still a few years away from the premiere of "The Avengers," Marvel's blockbuster superhero team-up movie, but that just means we have more time to whet our appetites for the culmination of Marvel's grand movie plans.

As announced during this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Nick Fury, and Hulk won't be the only characters to get the spotlight in the film. Among the new additions to the cast is "The Hurt Locker" star Jeremy Renner, who'll play the team's hotshot marksman, Hawkeye. MTV News caught up with Renner during the press junket for his new film "The Town," and asked him whether we'll see him don Hawkeye's classic purple costume for the film, or whether we'll get a more "Ultimates"-style take on the character.

"I think it's going to be a little more reality-based," said Renner. "You can kind of tell with Scarlett [Johansson]'s character [in 'Iron Man 2'], it's going to be more of a uniform . . . and not a big purple, comics sort of thing." Read More...

Sure the big Marvel announcement came yesterday at the Marvel Studios panel, but we just can’t stop obsessing about Joss Whedon and the fact that he has assembled such a mind-blowingly amazing cast for “The Avengers.”

When we caught up with the man of the week/hour/con, we asked Whedon why his two newest additions: Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo are perfect for Hawkeye and Hulk, respectively.

“The thing about Hawkeye, he’s got his bows and arrows, you need somebody who’s very very down to earth, who’s very grounded, and who’s going to be the kind of guy who, you see him, and you understand why he likes to be far away from things and then shoot at them,” Whedon said, adding that without the right actor in the role things could get “very silly” if handled incorrectly. “[With] Jeremy, he just has a lovely quality.” Read More...
