Bad news for those of you hoping that Jon Hamm was a viable candidate to star in Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot, we're afraid. The "Mad Men" actor spoke with MTV News on the red carpet at this past weekend's Critics Choice awards and confirmed that he is not in the running for the Man of Steel's silver screen revival.

"No," he said when asked if he was ever considered for Superman. "No, and I have talked to Zack quite a bit. We had some looping and reshoots and stuff to do on 'Sucker Punch,' but I think that's a young man's game. I think I've aged out of that one by now." Read More...

The Dark TowerWhen Roland Deschain begins his quest to reach "The Dark Tower," he'll have more than a few comic books to draw his inspiration from.

"The Dark Tower" director Ron Howard spoke with Hero Complex about his task of adapting Stephen King's classic fantasy books as both a film trilogy and an accompanying television series. During the interview, Howard revealed that the Marvel Comics tie-in issues would play a role in his vision of the seven-part novel series.

"It's the ongoing evolution of the characters and the discovery," Howard said of the "Dark Tower" comic books. "There are new interpretations of the rules of the world and the story. It's a really useful and compelling part of this already fascinating creative journey that we're on." Read More...

Even though his name hasn't popped up in connection with the "Superman" reboot too much in recent weeks, Jon Hamm's potential as the next Man of Steel remains in the minds of many fans worldwide.

Hamm himself is aware of the movement to cast the "Mad Men" star in director Zack Snyder's forthcoming adaptation, and believe it or not, he's up for the idea -- in fact, during an appearance on Conan O'Brien's new late night show, the actor said he would love to play "a middle-aged Superman."

"Everyone wants to see a middle-aged Superman," he joked during his "Conan" appearance. "With the power of handicapped parking and mall walking... a Superman who has to buy a fast car and date a younger woman to make him feel alive." Read More...

Armie HammerWhat does the Man of Steel have in common with Olympic athletes and entrepreneurs Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss? Beyond their mutually impressive physique, it turns out that they nearly shared an actor between them.

Armie Hammer, who plays the Winklevoss twins in "The Social Network," spoke with Vulture and confirmed that he and his representatives recently discussed playing Clark Kent in director Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot. Sadly for the actor, it's not meant to be.

"I did talk to my people recently about that for the first time, and I think they’re going a little older with Superman," said the actor. "I hear they’re going 35, 40." Read More...

Jon HammJon Hamm is best known for playing savvy advertising executive Donald Draper on AMC's "Mad Men," but you might know the actor for a very different reason. Over the past several weeks and months, Hamm's name has been dropped in connection with various comic book roles — indeed, he's a reliable presence in my Secret Identity column — and recently, Hamm has found himself entangled in a rather sizable rumor: a starring role in Christopher Nolan's "Superman" reboot.

Naturally, it's impossible to tell whether or not there's truth to the rumor, and the 39-year-old Hamm is certainly playing coy. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, the actor said that he hasn't "been informed of that [rumor]. They might want to run that by me."

But more importantly, Hamm echoed a sentiment held by some members of the comic book community: that he's simply too old to play the Man of Steel. Read More...

Worry not, Punisher fans — Frank Castle has come home.

Announced at the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, the rights for the Punisher have returned to Marvel, allowing the studio to put their character back on the big or small screen in anyway that they see fit. It's excellent news for Castle fans who feel the character hasn't gotten the proper live-action treatment he deserves. With Marvel back at the helm, it's a sure bet that Punisher is going to head back to theaters with a vengeance sometime in the near future.

But with three actors having played Castle over the last 21 years, who could possibly fill the street-level judge, jury and executioner's shoes next? After the jump, you can check out some of our suggestions for who Marvel should cast as the next Punisher! Read More...

There are a few actors out there who regularly pop up in our reader polls and Secret Identity casting columns as potential casting options for Superman, Captain America, and other prominent superhero movie roles. One of those actors is "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm, who has the distinction of not only being a favorite among readers and the Splash Page team, but also of having his name tossed around by various creators and filmmakers, too.

Along with receiving a fair share of fan support to play Superman, Green Lantern, and Captain America, comics-friendly filmmaker Kevin Smith raved to MTV News back in October that Hamm would make a great Superman or Batman. "Fear Agent" creators Rick Remender and Tony Moore also said Hamm is at the top of their list of actors who could bring sci-fi cowboy Heath Hudson to the big screen. Heck, we even suggested him for a role in a "Herbie: The Fat Fury" movie.

When MTV News caught up with Hamm last month, we ran down the long list of superheroes that fans want him to play. Here's what he had to say about it:

"Well, it's interesting. I'm a huge comic book fan, first of all," Hamm told MTV News. "I've collected them, I've read them since I was a kid. I am a big fan of the classic comics and also the darker ones that have sort of predominated in the last 10-15 years." Read More...

Fear AgentEarlier this year, it was announced that Universal had picked up the film rights to Rick Remender and Tony Moore’s epic sci-fi comic, “Fear Agent.” And while the series may be wrapping up next year, Remender is hinting that “Fear Agent” may have an even brighter future on the silver screen.

“The details are being ironed out,” Remender teased to Newsarama. “The real announcement will be much cooler and come with fireworks and dancing ladies with boobs. If this happens the way it might happen, it’ll be great.”

Back in August, Remender told MTV News that he hoped “Fear Agent” would become “a giant $100 million dollar movie.” Remender also stated that “Mad Man” star Jon Hamm would be one of his top choices to play the series' main character, Heath Hudson. Apparently, Jon Hamm is also heavily favored by Remender's “Fear Agent” co-creator and artist, Tony Moore. Read More...

When Kevin Smith dropped by Splash Page HQ to talk about his new book "Shootin' The Sh*t With Kevin Smith: The Best Of The SModcast," our conversation covered a wide range of topics. From things his wife won't let him talk about to the new character he created for "Batman: The Widening Gyre" (and even his reaction to Disney buying Marvel), Smith offered up some frank thoughts on every topic I threw his way—and even a few that came up on the spot.

Case in point: Our conversation about the "Mad Men" television series (he's a big fan, I haven't seen an episode yet—but intend to) and actor Jon Hamm, who stars in the series. Regular readers know Hamm's name has a habit of popping up whenever we discuss casting comic book characters (most recently, Captain America, Green Lantern and "Fear Agent" Heath Huston), but Smith offered up an even more interesting role for the "Mad Men" actor—two roles, in fact.

"That dude could play Batman and Superman," said Smith. "That's the weird thing. You look at him and he's got a f---ing Superman look, but he's got a Batman thing going on, too." Read More...

'Green Lantern'Warner Bros' live-action “Green Lantern” movie might have a release date, but we still don’t have a Lantern. Since it’s still an open playing field for the film, we thought it was time for a casting call of our own -- beginning with a recap of what we know about the project and the character.

One of the most popular and recognizable superheroes in the DC Universe, Green Lantern is unlike Batman or Superman in that his near-unlimited power comes from an alien artifact (a ring, powered by a “lantern” battery) that has changed hands many times over the years. In 2007, Warner Bros announced that the "Green Lantern" movie would focus on one of the most popular and memorable Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan -- a cocky test pilot given the ring by a dying alien who sought someone “utterly honest and born without fear” to replace him.
