Joss WhedonBy Aly Semigran

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: New Directions are about to join the ranks of some very famous television alumni. Joss Whedon, the man behind the fan-heavy series’ “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (which included his classic musical episode, “Once More, With Feeling”) and the legendary Neil Patrick Harris online musical sensation “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog,” will direct an upcoming episode of “Glee,” according to EW.com. Whedon will take a short break from his other Fox series “Dollhouse” to guide the kids of “Glee” into, well, a new direction.

But, that wasn’t the only joyous news from EW.com regarding “Glee.” One of the students of McKinley High School is about to have their first big reunion moment. No, it’s not time for a ten-year reunion flash-forward episode just yet, but Lea Michele (the uppity, but very talented songstress Rachel) will welcome her “Spring Awakening” costar Jonathan Groff to the show.

John CassadayIt's a rare storyteller who can jump between disciplines without much fuss, and equally rare is the raconteur with the connections to make such transitions look easy. Thankfully for John Cassaday fans, the artist's skill set and vision has finally afforded him a place behind the camera of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse," following the pair's collaboration on Marvel's "Astonishing X-Men."

In an interview with The Beat, Cassaday discussed his decision to transition from comic artist to television director and gave readers a look behind the "Dollhouse" production curtain.

"[Joss Whedon and I] got to know each other a few years before 'Astonishing X-Men' and through that became even better friends," said Cassady. "We found that we had a similar way of telling a story, almost a shorthand language." Read more...

DollhouseTaking a look at Joss Whedon's comic book resume is a bit like listing off his numerous contributions to television. Unfortunately for fans of "Dollhouse," the creator's latest endeavor has yet to join "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Serenity" and "Angel" in the center of his proverbial TV-to-comics Venn diagram. Of course, as Whedon readers have come to expect, all it takes is the right idea to get the creator knee-deep in a new project.

Even though no projects are set in stone, Dark Horse Comics' Senior Managing Editor Scott Allie was able to shed a little more light on the possibility of "Dollhouse" comics at this past weekend's Baltimore Comic-Con, according to ComicBookResources.

"'Dollhouse? There's a chance," Allie explained. Read more...

PriestIt looks like Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" isn't the only high-profile movie headed for adaptation at TokyoPop these days. The publisher recently announced plans to publish graphic novels based on Joss Whedon's upcoming horror film "Cabin in the Woods," as well as a graphic novel based on "Priest," the upcoming film starring Cam Gigandet ("Twilight") and Paul Bettany ("Legion").

According to ICv2, the two books are scheduled for release in 2010, likely timed to the February 5 premiere of "Cabin in the Woods" and the August 13 premiere of "Priest." Read more...

Joss Whedon"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon has never been shy about his love for comics, and it looks like we'll be treated to more evidence of that affection in the near future.

In an interview with Complex, Whedon shared some details about the upcoming season of "Dollhouse," and also dropped some info about the episode set to be directed by his "Astonishing X-Men" artist John Cassaday. As if that wasn't enough to get the comics wire buzzing, he confirmed the looming conclusion of Dark Horse Comics' "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight" series—and followed that up with the news that we'll definitely see a "Season Nine" for Buffy and co.

"He’s going to f--- up so much," joked Whedon of the fan-favorite artist's "Dollhouse" debut behind the camera. Read more...

While Joss Whedon is known for creating new worlds with properties like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly," the time he's spent playing in well-established has yielded some pretty darn good results, too. Take, for instance, his run on Marvel's "Astonishing X-Men" series with artist John Cassaday.

Their run with Marvel's mutants will be the focus of the publisher's next foray into the world of motion comics, following up on the successful debut of the "Spider-Woman" motion comic last month. Marvel released the following trailer for the comic, which will debut October 28 on iTunes.

Joss Whedon's musical miniseries "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" broke new ground with filmmaking for online audiences and earned the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator and his cast a lot of new fans, but with any success story like "Dr. Horrible," the question now becomes: what's next?

MTV News recently caught up with Whedon and posed that very same question, and if we're understanding the fan-favorite creator correctly, it sounds like there could not only be more "Dr. Horrible" on the way, but they already have a story in mind for the sequel.

"We're in there plugging. The writers are trying to put something together," Whedon told MTV News. "We haven't even decided on a venue. We have a story and we're working that. We're just starting with that." Read more...

Eliza DushkuBy Terri Schwartz

With fan rebellion worldwide against the purported Joss Whedon-less “Buffy,” ex-vampire slaying actress Eliza Dushku said being asked about the reboot is something she’s gotten familiar with in recent interviews.

“I go to Joss’s parties. I’ll just leave it at that,” Dushku told MTV News.

Dushku, who played Faith in Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” television series and its subsequent spin-off “Angel,” expressed no interest in the film or reprising her character in it, though she was not approached like “Buffy” creator Whedon was. With fan interest echoing the same sentiments, it seems like the only people who have interest in the film are oblivious moviegoers and “Twilight” fans looking for an Edward Cullen fix. Read more...

Joss WhedonIt's a fairly wide consensus in geekdom that nobody wants a new "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" film unless series mastermind Joss Whedon is allowed full creative control (or at least serious consultation privileges). But as it turns out, Whedon himself isn't all that interested.

Whedon spoke with Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch about the hotly-contested "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" film relaunch -- rumored to be an interpretation of the character that not only purports to ignore Whedon's continuity, but is being developed without Whedon's participation. Still, that's not to say that the producers behind the upcoming film didn't reach out to Whedon... eventually. Read more...

Angel: Only HumanJoss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" crew sure do get around these days. Whether it's voicing "Green Lantern" heroes or "Angel" characters making cameos elsewhere around the comics world, the demons, vamps and slayers of the Whedon-verse (and the actors who played them) are in high demand.

Offering yet another way to meet that demand, IDW Publishing has announced "Angel: Only Human" -- a new, four-part story spun-off from their main "Angel" series and focusing on the troubled characters Illyria and James Gunn. Kicking off in August, the miniseries puts the pair on the road to redemption (literally), as they deal with their recent return to the mortal plane.

IDW has provided Splash Page readers with the first look at the variant cover for "Angel: Only Human" #1, featuring the art of veteran "Star Wars" artist Dave Dorman. Read more...
