Keanu ReevesThere’s a green light for the live-action adaptation of “Akira” and rumors have been circling around possible actors for the lead roles, including Robert Pattison and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The latest name — and now a strong possibility for the role of Kaneda, one of the two main characters — is "The Matrix" star Keanu Reeves.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves has been in talks with Warner Bros., and while nothing is official yet, the talks are going well. They speculate that having Keanu Reeves’ name attached might help get another big name for the other main character, Tetsuo. Read More...

If you’ve been following anime-to-movie news — or Keanu Reeves’ life — you’ll know the "Matrix" actor is an anime fan and has been trying to get a “Cowboy Bebop” live action movie off the ground for some time. But with a reportedly high budget and several years of development already behind us, is there still a chance that the on-again off-again movie could hit theaters?

That’s the question that we all want to know here at Splash Page, so when we recently sat down with Reeves to discuss his new movie "Henry's Crime," we asked him for a "Bebop" update -- and it was more encouraging than we admittedly expected.

It's been almost a year to the day since we had our last official update on "Cowboy Bebop," the planned movie based on the beloved anime series that Keanu Reeves was attached to star in and produce. Back then, Reeves said the live-action "Cowboy Bebop" was getting a rewrite in order to reduce the massive cost of making the film.

When MTV News caught up with Reeves at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting his new film "Henry's Crimes," the actor said very little has changed about the dilemma facing the film.

When asked where things have gone since our last interview, Reeves let loose with a loud groan. "Nowhere," he said. "It hasn't been working." Read More...

We haven't heard anything from the live-action "Cowboy Bebop" movie front in a while, so when MTV News had the chance to chat up Keanu Reeves, the actor bringing main character Spike Spiegel to the screen, we made sure to check in on the adaptation of the beloved anime series.

"There's a draft of the script, but the writer did such a great job [that] in order to make the movie, you would need half a billion dollars," Reeves told MTV News during a press event for "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee," his recent film with Robin Wright Penn. Read More...

Cowboy BebopThe "Cowboy Bebop" camp has been awfully quiet lately. Following initial reports that Fox had acquired the multi-faceted space western for a live-action release starring Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel, new details have been sparse. Fortunately for fans, screenwriter Peter Craig broke Internet silence this week, reassuring Beboppers that the project is progressing -- and will be faithful to the source material.

In an interview with Anime Vice, Craig explained his latest "Bebop" script is nearly complete and better than ever thanks to his anime immersion. Read More...

'Cowboy Bebop'FROM MOVIES BLOG: Last month, MTV caught up with Keanu Reeves about his dream project -- a live-action remake of the anime classic, "Cowboy Bebop." Reeves confirmed that he and Fox were "trying to do that" and that a writer was attached. Now, The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that Reeves is set to play Spike Spiegel, and that Peter Craig is writing the script. No director has been named.

The sound you might hear now is the howl of a thousand "Cowboy Bebop" fans, who have long been against Reeves' casting and of an American remake in general. I'm not even sure that the news that the original Bebop writing and production team of Kenji Uchida, Shinichiro Watanabe, Keiko Nobumoto, and Masahiko Minami are coming onboard as producers and production consultants will help soften the blow.

'Cowboy Bebop'FROM MOVIES BLOG: It’s no secret that Keanu Reeves loves anime -- a main influence on the “Matrix” series. It’s also common knowledge that the actor holds a place in his heart for sci-fi, as evidenced by films like “A Scanner Darkly,” “Johnny Mnemonic” and the currently-tops-in-theaters “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” It’s no surprise, then, that Reeves’ latest passion project revolves around his desire to make a live-action “Cowboy Bebop.”

“Oh yeah, cool,” he said when I asked him about the flick recently. “We’re trying to do that.”

As fans of the Japanese classic TV series know, “Bebop” follows a crew of bounty hunters traveling around the universe in the year 2071. Reeves hopes to play Spike Spiegel, one of these futuristic cowboys forced to pick up the slack after a population crash and hyperspace gateways have left law-enforcement unable to capture many of the galaxy’s most ruthless criminals.

Keanu Reeves & Jennifer ConnollyIt's been just a day after we finished telling you about our exclusive information about "Plastic Man," and now we can put to rest the rumor that's been spreading like wildfire for a week. Keanu Reeves just told me that while he's itching to work with the Wachowskis again, it will not be in "Plastic Man."

When I asked him point blank if it's true that he will be donning the famed goggles of Plastic Man in an upcoming flick helmed by the creators of "The Matrix," Reeves said [it's] not true for me." In fact it was pretty clear that Reeves had never even heard the rumor.

"It might be true for other people but I haven't heard anything about it," Reeves said while chatting with MTV alongside his "The Day The Earth Stood Still" co-star Jennifer Connelly.

Are you bummed that Keanu won't be Plastic Man after all? Who should play the hero for the Wachowskis?

Keanu ReevesWhen word broke last week on a new collaboration between the notoriously press-shy Wachowski brothers and their “Matrix” star, Keanu Reeves, it certainly got people talking. Yes, at long last it seems the world will be treated to a “Plastic Man” movie. You were expecting a “Speed Racer” sequel?

Unfortunately the Wachowski brothers talk about their work almost as much as Terrence Malick and J.D. Salinger. They haven’t given an interview to anyone it seems since before the first “Matrix” came out. But now we can share with you some exclusive thoughts from the Wachowskis about their long in the making film. Read More...
