Kick-AssEarlier today we got our first peek at a new set of "Kick-Ass" movie posters featuring the film's costumed vigilantes, and now Lionsgate has launched the official website for the big-screen adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's ultraviolent comic book series.

Debuting today at iamkick-ass.com, the site doesn't offer much at the moment aside from a look at the same four images from the new posters and a countdown to the "Kick-Ass" trailer debut—which will apparently hit MySpace.com on November 15 at 1 AM EST.

However, the site does feature a cool introductory animation that sweeps through the city on its way up to the quartet of costumed characters perched on a ledge. Read more...

Kick-AssA quartet of new posters from "Kick-Ass," Matthew Vaughn's big-screen adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s ultra-violent comic book series, have arrived online.

The four posters feature images of the film's costumed vigilantes: The Red Mist (played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse), Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson), Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). Each character is poised on a rooftop, facing away from the camera, and the four posters form a skyline view when aligned.

Kick-AssWhen it comes to comic book movie adaptations, fans can usually spot source-material unfamiliarity in the actors. Fortunately for fans of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass" comic book, at least two of the film's stars have done their reading.

Turns out both Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke were already in a pretty strong position to tackle the research that came with their roles.

"I got the script and said 'I've seen this name before,' and went through my dad's comics, pulled out the first issue and read it," Mintz-Plasse told MTV News. Read more...

The Red MistMost comic-to-film stories seem marred when a fan-favorite detail gets lost in translation, but in the case of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass," one character seems to have gained something in the comic's transition to the silver screen.

The title character's cohort in crime fighting, The Red Mist, has inherited a righteous mop in place of his Zorro-style bandana from the comics—a stylistic variation actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse seems pretty keen on.

"[The look] fits for the character," Mintz-Plasse told MTV News, "The character is very in his dad's shadow. He doesn't get to hang out a lot with friends because he always has a bodyguard around. He kind of wanted that wild side—that '80s glam-rock kind of look. And I love [David] Bowie—I love that kind of hair." Read more...

Kick-AssWhen "Kick-Ass" premieres on April 13, audiences will not only be seeing one of the year's most-anticipated comic book movies, but they could also get the first look at what's in store "Kick-Ass 2."

The "Kick-Ass" sequel that writer Mark Millar said would begin shooting within two years already has a premise, and he says there will "definitely" be a follow-up. Though it's unknown whether Matthew Vaughn will return to direct or Marvel Entertainment's new Disney owners would distribute a sequel instead of Lionsgate, the miniseries' creator remains certain that "Kick-Ass 2" will happen.

"There's a basic plot," Millar told MTV News. "The series ends on a teaser for the next one, and the movie ends on that teaser, too." Read more...

Kick-AssCall it the magic of Comic-Con, but things have moved fast since Matthew Vaughn debuted the first footage from "Kick-Ass," his adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s violent miniseries, during the San Diego convention.

According to Variety, Lionsgate has tagged April 16 as the official premiere date for "Kick-Ass." The studio acquired distribution rights for the project in August and shifted around the release date for its action film "The Expendables" during this release-date shuffle.

The story of a teenager who decides to don a costume and become a real-life superhero, "Kick-Ass" will debut during a crowded weekend at the box office, and just a week after another much-anticipated comic book adaptation. Read more...

Kick-Ass"Kick-Ass" kicked off production with writing, design and ready-made storyboards from two of the biggest names in comics when Matthew Vaughn stepped up to direct the adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s miniseries. But the duo's involvement didn't stop with the comic book, though.

Romita already revealed that he contributed artwork for an animated sequence in the film, and now he's disclosed exactly how that material will be used—as well as what it will explain about Nicolas Cage's character, Big Daddy.

"The animated sequence is about a minute, minute and a half, and it's a very wild computer program that allows us to do this," Romita told MTV News. "I don't need to do as many drawings as you think, but they're able to do the animation with models that I've drawn." Read more...

Avengers"Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn already has one comic book movie in the works, and his name's been dropped in connection with a potential adaptation of "American Jesus," as well as being attached to "Thor" well before Kenneth Branagh joined the project.

So, since it's pretty safe to say Vaughn knows his comics fare, we had to ask him whether there's a dream project out there that he's dying to bring from comics to the big screen—other than "Kick-Ass," of course.

"[I'd] love to do 'The Avengers,'" Vaughn told MTV News. "And Superman... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman." Read more...

ThorBrian Michael Bendis reaffirmed his hope for the "Thor" film yesterday with some high expectations coming out of a mystery meeting. Director Jon Favreau, meanwhile, has been getting out more now that shooting for "Iron Man 2" has wrapped, and went out to see "District 9." You can check out his reactions below.

In other comic-based movie news, "Kick-Ass" cast members Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz exchanged tweets yesterday about their upcoming release based on the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. series of the same name. Sadly, the Twitter Report feed also picked up a tweet from webcomic marathoner John Allison, who finished drawing the last installment of his long-running series "Scary Go Round."

Check out what they all had to say, who went to a midnight screening of "Inglourious Basterds," and much more. It's in the Twitter Report for August 21, 2009. Read more...

Kick-AssWe said it wouldn't be long until Matthew Vaughn's "Kick-Ass" adaptation found itself a distributor, and now it looks like we were right! After a packed San Diego Comic-Con house gave the first footage from the film a positive reception, it was revealed that three studios were vying for the opportunity to bring the project to theaters. Now, we have a winner.

Lionsgate has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to the action/comedy based on the hit series by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

“Matthew Vaughn is an amazing talent and a true original, and he has brought a whole new mindset to the action genre with 'Kick-Ass,'" said Jason Constantine, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. "'Kick-Ass' redefines the boundaries in terms of humor, action, story, character and tone—it’s the kind of movie that reminds us of why we go to the movies in the first place.  Lionsgate is thrilled to bring KICK-ASS home to give it the next-generation launching pad it deserves."
