We all know that with great power comes great responsibility, but did you know that it also comes with a highly successful film franchise? The decision-makers behind the "Spider-Man" movies certainly do as they begin preparing a Sam Raimi-directed, Tobey Maguire-starring "Spider-Man 4" for a 2011 theatrical debut.
Today, Columbia Pictures announced some new information regarding the highly anticipated fourth film in the franchise. In addition to confirming the involvement of the previously announced Raimi and Maguire, Columbia notes that actress Kirsten Dunst is officially reprising her role as Mary Jane Watson, whose future with the "Spider-Man" property was previously uncertain.
Additionally, Columbia announced that "Spider-Man 4" will hit IMAX theaters on May 5, 2011, the same date as the film's worldwide release. Read more...
"Spider-Man" actress Kirsten Dunst appears to have some aptitude for full-on anime cosplay in recent photographs taken in Tokyo's Akihabara otaku shopping district. The current Mary Jane Watson was being filmed for a music video directed by "Terminator Salvation" (and former "Superman") McG.
According to Ideeli, the project is a "manga inspired pop video" scheduled to premiere in an exhibition later this year at London's Tate Modern museum of modern art.
No stranger to anime, Dunst previously provided the voice of the main character in the English version of Hayao Miyazaki's "Kiki's Delivery Service." McG has also expressed a fondness for Japanese anime—particularly "Sailor Moon," a series which seems to inspire Dunst's outfit. Read more...
"Spider-Man 4" director Sam Raimi might not know who the film's villain will be or if Kirsten Dunst will return to the franchise, but producer Todd Black seems to have a firmer grasp on the movie's status.
In an interview with the New York Post, Black confirmed that Kirsten Dunst will be appearing in the fourth "Spider-Man" installment, returning once again to portray Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's main squeeze. Black also said that the film would not feature a wedding between the two characters, so we'll just have to remain satisfied with their newspaper nuptials for now. Read more...
With “Drag Me to Hell” rocking the socks off preview audiences and likely on its way to becoming one of the summer’s sleeper hits, director Sam Raimi can finally shift his focus back to the blockbuster franchise that made him a household name. And at the end of June, he’ll be ready to do exactly that with a newly-printed copy of Hollywood’s hottest screenplay.
“Right now, David Lindsay-Abaire, a New York playwright, is working on the screenplay,” Raimi said of the eagerly-anticipated “Spider-Man 4” script that will lay the blueprint for his film, due in theaters May 6, 2011. “He says that he’ll be done in about four weeks with his first draft. So that’s where I am right now. And I’m just about to hire a production skeleton.” Read more...
Kirsten Dunst is apparently still up in the air about coming back to play Mary Jane Watson in "Spider-Man 4," and despite her excitement about starring in another sequel, new statements from director Sam Raimi indicate that she may need some persuading.
Raimi has Tobey Maguire locked to reprise his roll as Peter Parker, though, and it sounds like he's ready to make his case to Dunst as well -- an actress who he "can't imagine" making the film without.
"I'm hoping that she is going to come aboard, and I've got a meeting coming up with her," Raimi told Sci Fi Wire. "I think she would like to. But I don't want to speak on behalf of her." Read more...
Although things weren’t looking too good for awhile, "Spider-Man" has overcome adversities tougher than a Green Goblin-Doc Ock team-up, and now once again has Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi in his corner. But what about Kirsten Dunst?
“Kirsten, I’d love to work with her again,” Raimi explained to us this week, making it sound as if current plans to include Dunst for “Spider-Man 4” and “Spider-Man 5” are still up in the air, despite recent statements that she wants to remain with the franchise. “I hope she’ll be written into it. I couldn’t imagine making one without her, and I think she’s an important part of the movies.” Read more...
On Monday, we reported that Kirsten Dunst told us -- with Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi officially signed-up -- that we could also count her "in" for reprising her role as Mary Jane in the "Spider-Man" franchise.
But that wasn't the only Spidey talk during our chat. In the full exchange below, watch Simon Pegg throw his hat into the ring as a possible guest-sibling, a discussion of villains (despite some difficulty with character names), and Dunst revealing her favorite scene from "Spider-Man 3."
Be sure to head over to MTV Movies to check out the full interview with Dunst and Pegg.
What do you say, readers -- is she in or out? And would you like to see Simon Pegg in an upcoming "Spider-Man" flick? Talk to us in the comments.
For quite some time now, "Spider-Man" star Kirsten Dunst has had one major condition as to whether or not she'd sign-up for any future sequels of the franchise -- that director Sam Raimi and co-star Tobey Maguire be signed on as well.
Well, now that the news has broken that both Raimi and Maguire have signed back on for a fourth and fifth installment -- with a hefty paycheck attached as well -- MTV News posed the big question to Dunst while she was promoting her upcoming film, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" with Simon Pegg. Is she in or is she out?
"I'm in," said the actress matter of factly. However, when pressed to make the announcement official, Dunst quickly changed her tone, and rather cryptically added, "I'm not saying anything, I know there's rumors..." Read more...
