SupermanOne of the many creators I had a chance to chat with during last weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago was comic creator and film producer Michael Uslan, executive producer on just about every Batman project to ever hit the big (or small) screen — including 2008's record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight."

While Uslan said he had "nothing to share" regarding regarding the much-anticipated third film in director Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, he did offer up some thoughts on the news that Nolan will shepherd a reboot of the Superman movie universe. Comparing Superman's big-screen future to the second film in the "Star Trek" franchise (considered a vast improvement on its predecessor), Uslan said he has high hopes for the filmmaker's take on the Man of Steel.

"I think there are great things happening in the DC universe," said Uslan when asked about Nolan taking over the Superman movies. Read More...

The ShadowThe Shadow knows what lurks in the hearts of men, but what does "The Shadow" producer Michael Uslan know about plans for a new film to feature the pulp hero?

Last month, rumors hit the 'Net that an upcoming "Shadow" film co-produced by Uslan and Sam Raimi (a well-known fan of the character) was being shopped around Hollywood to various studios. While most reports agreed that there was some uncertainty where the project would land, other reports indicated that former "Spider-Man" director Raimi (whose 1990 film "Darkman" was actually his take on The Shadow sans rights to the character) might not direct, and instead hand the reins over to "30 Days of Night" and "Twilight: Eclipse" director David Slade.

During this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago, I put the question to Uslan for some clarification on the status of "The Shadow." Read More...

'The Spirit'This week, the producers of Frank Miller's big-screen adaptation of "The Spirit" return to Will Eisner's classic hero with a three-part story that kicks off in issue #26 of DC's ongoing "The Spirit" comic book series -- but this time, their focus will be on the hero's notorious femme fatales. MTV News sat down for a chat with film and comics veteran Michael Uslan and his longtime creative partner F.J. DeSanto to discuss their upcoming run on "The Spirit" and why an examination of the series' leading ladies is way past due.

"This is the most daunting, challenging, terrifying thing I have ever done in my career," said Uslan of taking the reins on DC's "The Spirit" series -- no throwaway remark, given Uslan's role as producer of all the various Batman movies (as well as many other comics-inspired films of the last few decades) and his long list of comics writing credits.

"To me, The Spirit is the greatest creative work ever to come out of the comic book industry," Uslan told MTV News. (Read on for more from Uslan and DeSanto on their three-part story arc in "The Spirit.") Read More...

'The Shadow'Around 2007, rumors of a possible revamp of longtime pulp stalwart "The Shadow" began popping up around the message boards, fueled by veteran producer Michael Uslan's insistence that this time around he'd be offering fans a take on the character that's more true to his roots. Then, when word got out that Sam Raimi was onboard as a fellow producer, fans knew this vision of The Shadow would be vastly different from the 1994 offering.

For those of you holding out hope that Uslan would stay true to his word about a new take on the character, you won't be disappointed.

"I think the one thing going in is we all see The Shadow as more of a force of nature than a specific person in a secret identity," Uslan told MTV in an exclusive interview. "The Shadow may actually be many people." Read More...

Captain MarvelDC's Captain Marvel has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules and various other attributes that provide an acronym for "SHAZAM!" (the word that transforms Billy Batson into Captain Marvel) -- but what about his ability to make a move to the big screen? After the on-again, off-again project seemed to fall back into limbo last week when screenwriter John August said the Captain Marvel/Shazam film "won't be happening," the film's producer Michael Uslan told MTV News that fans shouldn't abandon hope of seeing the hero in theaters.

"I will only say one thing -- and all I will do is quote Samuel Clemens to you," hinted Uslan. "This is direct from Captain Marvel himself: 'The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.'" Read More...
