Thor

If you're worried about "Thor 2" following the abrupt departure of director Patty Jenkins, you're not alone. The "Monster" director left the Marvel Studios project rather suddenly after many people involved with the project — including former director Kenneth Branagh and still-on-board actor Tom Hiddleston — sang the filmmaker's praises, leaving many onlookers to wonder exactly what went wrong.

According to a new report in The Hollywood Reporter, fans aren't the only ones left scratching their heads. THR reports that the "Thor" franchise's lead actress, Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, is "deeply upset" about losing Jenkins because she was partially responsible for bringing Jenkins on board in the first place.

If "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh has a hidden superpower, it's getting his actors to fall in love with him.

In an exclusive clip from the upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release of the summer blockbuster, Chris Hemsworth and his costars fall all over one another to fete the guy for his vision, his commitment and his relentless commitment to turn what could have been a "Masters of the Universe"-style cheesefest into a Shakespeare-infused superhero epic.

"Thor" opens in the United States on May 6, one of the last in the line of worldwide releases that kick off in Australia on April 21. As if the added wait wasn't enough, it now turns out that the Marvel Studios blockbuster will be premiering in Sydney, Australia as well, on April 17. It's like star Chris Hemsworth is from there or something. Oh... right.

Hemsworth will be joined on the red carpet by director Kenneth Branagh and stars Kat Dennings, who plays Darcy, Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, and Jaimie Alexander, who plays Sif.

The premiere will mark the kickoff of a two-day promotion tour through the country, with stops in Sydney and Hemsworth's home town of Melbourne. Fellow star Natalie Portman isn't mentioned and likely won't be participating since she is expecting her first child this summer. Read More...

Natalie PortmanBetween an inevitable Academy Award nomination for her work in "Black Swan," a new engagement and a baby on the way, it's safe to say that things are going well for Natalie Portman. It's a good time for her fans, and comic book fans too, as the actress is set to dive into the superhero arena with next summer's "Thor."

But in terms of comic book movies, Portman's involvement with "Thor" is it for now — those of you holding out hope for Portman's interpretation of Lois Lane or Selina Kyle are in for a disappointment.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly (via Superhero Hype), Portman responded to rumors that she's up for roles in Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot and Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises." Read More...

Natalie PortmanWhen Natalie Portman described her "Thor" leading lady Jane Foster as "an unusual female character for one of these movies," she wasn't joking around.

The actress recently spoke with The Los Angeles Times and revealed her extensive research process in creating the Foster character. Portman said that she was very involved in the creation of Foster's personality and experience for the big screen, thanks in large to the collaborative nature of director Kenneth Branagh.

“I did think it was a total opportunity,” she said. “I signed on to do it before there was a script. And Ken, who’s amazing, who is so incredible, was like, ‘You can really help create this character.'" Read More...

The Dark Knight RisesThe search for Batman's new love interest -- and, apparently, a new female adversary -- is officially on.

News broke yesterday that director Christopher Nolan is on the hunt for two leading ladies for "The Dark Knight Rises," with six different actresses reported as the front runners for the job: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.

The characters that these actresses would be playing remains unclear, but even without that information, we can still imagine what it might be like if one or more of them winds up in Gotham City for the third Batman film. Read More...

Rachel WeiszThe last time we heard anything about "The Dark Knight Rises" casting, Christopher Nolan was reportedly taking meetings with a slew of actresses in their late 20s and early 30s for the female lead in his next Batman movie.

Today we have word that the list has been narrowed down to six lucky ladies, and that Nolan is looking to cast two female leads — not just one, as was previously thought. The short list of actresses allegedly in contention are Rachel Weisz (pictured), Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.

According to Deadline, Nolan is looking for an actress to play a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and another to portray a villain. Read More...

When "Thor" storms into theaters next summer, all eyes are going to be on Chris Hemsworth, the Australian actor starring as the humbled God of Thunder in the Marvel Studios films. But don't neglect Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings, two of the film's leading ladies — just because they're playing the considerably more grounded Jane Foster and Darcy doesn't mean they're not having fun.

"It was a fun opportunity to get to do this character, because I think she's an unusual female character for one of these movies," Portman told MTV News last month at Comic-Con in San Diego. "I'm in sweatpants for half of the movie, so I'm not in some crazy, sexy garb!" Read More...

Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings clearly have some chemistry, something that was on full display during their interview with Splash Page editor Rick Marshall at this year's Comic-Con. The two gleefully described their "Thor" characters of Jane Foster and Darcy "the gnome helper" (watch the video and you'll see what we mean), but they also had plenty of thoughts to share on the God of Thunder himself.

Portman and Dennings described their experience working with Chris Hemsworth, the bearded Australian actor starring as Thor in Kenneth Branagh's upcoming Marvel film. According to the actresses, their initial work with Hemsworth had the actor performing entirely in civilian clothes — and when he finally stepped out as Thor, the two of them were thunder-struck, to say the least.
