Joss Whedon's online musical "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" not only broke new ground for Internet media, it also landed an Emmy in the short-format, live-action category of the annual awards. So, it was probably no surprise that the series already had a sequel in the works long before all the award talk began. Back in August, we got the scoop from Whedon himself—and now we have an update from one the project's stars, "Castle" and "Firefly" star Nathan Fillion.
"There are plans," Fillion told MTV News. "The media for the sequel has not yet been decided, but there is a title." Read more...
"Castle" star Nathan Fillion is already a hero to many fans due to his place in Joss Whedon's over-too-soon "Firefly" universe, but could he be the "Greatest American Hero"?
When the actor dropped by Splash Page HQ, he shared some thoughts about his hopes for rebooting the classic early-'80s television series about a teacher who's given a suit that grants him superhero powers, only to lose the instruction manual. Comparing the award-winning series' demise to that of the much-loved "Firefly," Fillion explained why he's the perfect choice to star in a "Greatest American Hero" reboot.
"I think 'Greatest American Hero' is ripe for a comeback," Fillion told MTV News. "I know I'm Canadian, but I think I could put my hat in for that one." Read more...
Given the hotbed of conversation in our poll of the week, it only makes sense that Steve Rogers is the subject of today's Secret Identity casting call.
Captain America is undoubtedly one of Marvel's highest profile superheroes, and with his very own movie on the way, it's well worth wondering who could sling that mighty shield.
In terms of practicalities, Cap's biggest problem lies in his origin story: scrawny Steve Rogers volunteers to test the super soldier serum, thereby becoming the red, white and blue hero he's known for today. Outside of Christian Bale, I can't think of many actors that could leap from a rail thin frame to the muscular build required of Captain America -- so instead, I'll focus on the post-serum Cap. With that stipulation, here are five actors with what it takes to bring Marvel's most patriotic superhero to the big screen. Read more...
Between the recent release of the animated "Green Lantern: First Flight" and the acquisition of Ryan Reynolds for 2011's live-action "Green Lantern" movie, the willpower of Lantern-lovers finally seems to be winning out in Hollywood. Heck, there was even that amazingly well-done "Green Lantern" fan trailer that cast Nathan Fillion as DC's Emerald Avenger.
When MTV News caught up with Fillion, the "Castle" and "Firefly" star voiced his support for both the faux trailer and Reynolds' qualifications to wield the most powerful weapon in the universe.
"A friend of mine, P.J., introduced me to this fan trailer, a fan-made trailer of me as the Green Lantern, which tickled me to no end," Fillion told MTV News. "It was actually really incredibly well done." Read more...
What do Rainn Wilson ("The Office") and frequent Joss Whedon collaborator Nathan Fillion ("Serenity") have to do with DC Comics? That's a very good question -- and it's one I'm dying to know the answer to, now that Wilson reported that the pair were en route to a meeting with the comics publisher.
The actual text of the message, posted on Twitter somewhere around 3:00 PM EST today, was as follows: "@rainnwilson and @nathanfillion are about to go meet with DC COMICS! Could be some good sh-- percolating..."
But what could that "good sh--" entail? (Warning: I feel some wild guesses on the horizon...) Read more...
A disclaimer before we begin: This is not an official "Green Lantern" trailer. We repeat, this is not an official "Green Lantern" trailer. But lord knows we wish it was.
Given the absence of much official info regarding the much-anticipated DC here's live-action debut, Jaron Pitts, a young video editor from Dallas, fabricated a trailer for his own vision of "Green Lantern" by splicing together clips from a multitude of other film projects. The trailer features fan-favorite actor Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan, utilizing clips from Fillion's work on "Firefly" and "Serenity" in the trailer. The actor himself loved the fan trailer so much that he even endorsed it on Twitter.
"I LOVE THIS!" Fillion proclaimed. "This guy rocks!" Read more...
Warner Bros' live-action “Green Lantern” movie might have a release date, but we still don’t have a Lantern. Since it’s still an open playing field for the film, we thought it was time for a casting call of our own -- beginning with a recap of what we know about the project and the character.
One of the most popular and recognizable superheroes in the DC Universe, Green Lantern is unlike Batman or Superman in that his near-unlimited power comes from an alien artifact (a ring, powered by a “lantern” battery) that has changed hands many times over the years. In 2007, Warner Bros announced that the "Green Lantern" movie would focus on one of the most popular and memorable Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan -- a cocky test pilot given the ring by a dying alien who sought someone “utterly honest and born without fear” to replace him. Over the last month or so, we’ve heard from various members of the cast and crew for DC's "Wonder Woman" animated film, including Vicki Lewis (who will voice Persephone), producer Bruce Timm and "Wonder Woman" screenwriter Michael Jelenic.
Now, fan-favorite "Firefly" actor Nathan Fillion has spoken up about his role as Steve Trevor in the direct-to-dvd film, pairing him up once again with his “Waitress” co-star Keri Russell.

“Playing second fiddle to Keri, that's a wonderful fiddle to play. I've done it before, I'll do it again,” said Fillion. "As for her strengths as Wonder Woman, well, first of all, she has a jet. It’s not invisible, but it’s close. And she does wear a tiara. Not all the time--you’re not going to see her walking down the street in it. But she’s got it. And it looks good. She wears it well.” Read more...
