A few weeks back Splash Page reported that "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" star Neil Patrick Harris would be portraying a music-themed villain in an episode of Cartoon Network's "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." While the idea of a crooning caped crusader might have initially caught some off guard, new details regarding the episode's San Diego Comic-Con International premiere promise a roundtable discussion regarding the more melodic side of Batman.
In "Mayhem of the Music Meister" Harris voices the titular antagonist (pictured below), who seeks to conquer the world through song. The Music Meister is a brand new character created for the kid-friendly series, presenting Batman with his first real opportunity to sing since a 2004 episode of "Justice League Unlimited." Just when the "Batman" news couldn't possibly get more depressing, here comes Neil Patrick Harris to save the day. The former Dr. Horrible is going head-to-head with the Dark Knight -- in animated form, at least.
The "How I Met Your Mother" actor will provide the voice for the Music Meister, a brand-new villain created specifically for "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." Harris' character will appear in an episode called "Mayhem of the Music Meister!," set to debut during Comic-Con International. Read more...
If there was one moment of brilliance that came out of the writer’s strike, surely it was the Joss Whedon musical, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog.” Life seems a little bit brighter now that we’ve heard Nathan Fillion’s singing voice, discovered the existence of Bad Horse and his Evil League of Evil, and discovered how a mere bad guy becomes a super villain.
Fans of Dr. Horrible have been clamoring for a sequel since the first episode -- and given the sucker-punch of an ending, it seems wide open for one. When MTV News caught up with Dr. Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, we asked if there was any chance that he would be returning in another installment.
“No, I wish," he told MTV. "Everyone asks me for scoops. We just worked on the DVD. It has its own unique commentary musical that I think is kick-ass. But otherwise there's no future with it at the moment." Read more...
It only took a few months for Bad Horse to get his stable in order, but the Evil League of Evil -- finally -- is accepting applications for new members .
"I would encourage people sending in their submissions to know that the Evil League of Evil is no joke," Neil Patrick Harris told us. "It's legitimately hard-core to get in. I would know."
Those who submit before October 11 have a chance at being included on the upcoming DVD commemorating the league's most recent member, and already there are some interesting prospects of the hundred or so-and-counting who leaped at the chance. For instance, this pair has extensive experience, or so they claim, with guns, knives, hand-to-hand combat, and debilitating bad breath. This vampire even went to the trouble of singing about his plight. And this aspirant doesn't even want to be in the League proper -- she just wants a shot at being Dr. Horrible's sidekick. You know it didn't just end with Dr. Horrible taking his place in the Evil League of Evil -- Joss Whedon is dreaming up more, much more for his supervillain, and first and foremost, it's going to be in comics.
"We'd love to do more Dr. Horrible in any form," he said, "because that's a very rich universe, and it's a comic book universe very specifically."
That's because Dr. Horrible deconstructs superhero stereotypes -- the villain is the nice guy, the hero is a jerk, and the girl they want to save they end up destroying with their actions. That's just for starters. The first of the comics, "Be Like Me," was an eight-page webcomic written by Joss' brother Zack from the point of view of Dr. Horrible's arch-nemesis Captain Hammer, and revealed the hero as the corporate tool Horrible always says he is. It'll be included in the bound volume of the My Space Dark Horse Presents collection. Read more...
