During this year's New York Comic Con, MTV News chatted up “Invincible Iron Man,” writer Matt Fraction about “Iron Man 2,” his involvement with the film and all of the recent casting news. Last year, we reported that Fraction traveled to Los Angeles to meet with “Iron Man” Director Jon Favreau, writer Justin Theroux, and Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige -- so what did they discuss?
“They were fans of my take, and they wanted someone in the room that came from comics and knew the Iron Man culture,” Fraction told MTV News. “It was basically a story workshop for about a week. They liked the real-world stuff. They liked the fact that it took place 20 minutes from now. And they liked that Stark was the guy with the horrible past and a hopeful future.” Read more...
Live from New York, the "Saturday Night Live" duo of Bill Hader and Seth Meyers joined Sunday's Mondo Marvel at New York Comic Con to announce their upcoming Spider-Man one-shot issue, "The Short Halloween."
"First of all, I wanted to give credit to Bill for coming up with the title, 'The Short Halloween," said Meyers of the lampoon of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's "Batman: The Long Halloween" series.
"This is one of a few rooms where that would get a laugh." Read more...
The "Thor" movie -- and director Kenneth Branagh's vision for it -- has been quite the topic of discussion among comics fans since the veteran Shakespearian actor and director was first rumored as likely helm to project, then confirmed his involvement to MTV News back in December. After Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada and the publisher's primary architect, Brian Michael Bendis, revealed last week that they'd met with Branagh to discuss the "Thor" movie, we grabbed Quesada for a quick recap of that meeting during this weekend's New York Comic Con.
"We spent seven or eight hours with Kenneth where he meticulously took us through the beats of the 'Thor' movie along with [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige and our friends at Marvel West," Quesada told MTV. "We just sat there, and it was almost like he acted out the entire movie." Read more...
Fans anxiously awaiting the big screen debut of "Astro Boy" have been on a rollercoaster ride as of late, what with rumors of financial troubles at Imagi Entertainment (the studio producing the CGI animated film) and straight-up rejections from the hottest girl in the room, Scarlett Johansson. But since then, it seems like the folks at Imagi have been pulling out all the stops in the hopes to quell the jangled nerves of geeks everywhere with statements from the Imagi's U.S. President, Erin Corbett, and some sweet new images dropping on the web.
And those in attendance on Saturday night's Summit Entertainment panel at the New York Comic Con got to see a special sneak peak at a clip straight from the flick. Sorry folks, but recording devices were strictly prohibited at the event, but we've got good news -- IGN.com managed to land even more stills from the film, and we've got 'em here. Check out Astro Boy taking a quick trip around Metro City below...

...and after the jump, we've got another one for ya, as well as a description of what we got to see at the panel. Read more...
FROM MOVIES BLOG: Who watches the “Watchmen”? At New York Comic-Con on Saturday afternoon, it was the lucky crowd packed into the Warner Brothers panel as the studio showed off a never-before-seen thirty-second clip from their forthcoming graphic novel-adapted blockbuster.
The scene -- taken verbatim from the source material -- takes place after Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) is captured and incarcerated in prison. Deprived of his iconic mask, his bruised and bandaged face exposed, Rorschach is waiting on line in the mess hall when a hulking inmate starts giving him a hard time. We see Rorschach’s craggy face tighten just before he completely loses it—not that he ever had “it” to begin with. Rorschach nails the guy in the face with a metal food tray and then douses him in burning hot fryer oil. The inmate falls to his knees, crying like a baby while his skin melts away.

Last week, "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" actor Brandon Routh had the online world buzzing when he said the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's much-beloved series would be a "great mix of real people and drawn animation." How would the two styles blend in director Edgar Wright's vision for the film? Would O'Malley's hand be providing the aforementioned animation?
MTV News sat down with O'Malley during New York Comic Con to talk about just those subjects -- and his response shed a little more light on what "Scott Pilgrim" might end up looking like on the big screen.
"I think what he said was kind of blown out of proportion by the rumor mill," said O'Malley of Routh's description of the film. "It's not going to be like half the thing is hand-animated, like they're saying on the Internet lately." Read more...
After months of wondering whether the video game based on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" will be the best there is at what it does, I received a hands-on demo of the game at this year's New York Comic Con -- and anyone hoping that Logan's upcoming adventure will spill copious amounts of blood all over the digital world won't be disappointed.
Along with providing a peek at one of the most violent games I've ever played (enemies' severed limbs were flying around the screen like confetti throughout much of the demo), the Activision and Raven Software crew offered up some insight on where the game fit in the greater "X-Men" film chronology and some of the comics call-outs they included in the game.
"When you're in the jungle you've still got bone claws -- you don't even have the metal claws that Wolverine is known for yet," Raven project lead Dan Vondrak told MTV. "[In] the other X-Men movies, Logan's always wondering 'What happened to me?' and 'How did I become who I am?' but we show you that." Read more...
During the first day of New York Comic Con, MTV News sat down with Brian Michael Bendis, one of the primary architects of the Marvel Comics universe, to get an update on the upcoming television adaptation of "Powers," his comic book series with Michael Avon Oeming that explores a superhero-populated world via the conventions of police procedural drama. Bendis announced late last year that "Powers" would become a television series, but confirmed where the series would air in today's interview.
"'Powers' is in active development as a pilot at FX," Bendis told MTV. "I just handed in a draft to the network and we're getting our notes from the network as soon as this thing is over. So next week I'll get the notes, and as long as they don't involve sock puppets and some sort of orgy scene that I'm not interested in, then hopefully it will go in the right direction." Read more...
