"Ninja Turtles" might have recently cast a surprising leading lady, but that hasn't stopped it from getting its release date bumped back. The movie will now be coming out on June 6, 2014 instead of the previously-announced May 16, 2014.
That original release date had pitted "Ninja Turtles" against "Godzilla," but now the Turtles will have to face off against some different giant lizards, as "Jurassic Park 4" is due out on June 13. Insert obligatory reptile joke here. Thanks to Collider for the release date heads up.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new April O'Neil: Ms. Megan Fox.
That's right — the "Transformers" team of Fox and Michael Bay are reunited at last, despite a very public and very ugly falling out ahead of the third installment in the series, "Dark of the Moon." The pair has been repaired, however, as Bay confirmed on his own blog that Fox is locked in for his "Ninja Turtles" reboot, to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman.
No, Leonardo and his pals aren't going up against the most fearsome Kaiju of them all, not within the same movie at least. (Though based on some script reviews, that might be a preferable experience.) But the non-teenage non-mutant "Ninja Turtles" are indeed poised to battle it out with "Godzilla" when the two movies are released on the same weekend in two years: May 16, 2014.
Already, the summer of 2014 is finding itself full of alien invasion and other forms of apocalyptic destruction. "Turtles" and "Godzilla" share a release date. There's also "Guardians of the Galaxy" hitting that August. Add to that "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Robopocalypse," among others, and it's looking like a very eventful summer two years from now.
Thanks to ComingSoon.net for the tip.
The "Ninja Turtles" reboot is delayed, not dead. Michael Bay is still producing, Jonathan Liebesman is still directing, and "TMNT" co-creator Kevin Eastman is still very much in the loop.
Eastman recently spoke with Comic Book Resources about his upcoming comic "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual 2012" for IDW Publishing (pictured above), and he explained some of the reasons behind the "Turtles" delay, with two big reasons standing out: Liebesman wanting to make sure that the visual effects are up to snuff, and timing the film's release with the 30th anniversary of the "Ninja Turtles" brand.
There weren't many tears shed at the potentially indefinite delay of the upcoming remake of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." The live action film was going to ditch the "teenage" and "mutant" elements of the fan-favorite characters and instead have the titular turtles be aliens who have come from outer space.
Yes, we know, we know, just about everyone who heard about the idea hated it. But The One Ring recently sat down with "TMNT" co-creator Kevin Eastman to talk about what might have been (and still might be) in the new reimagining of the story. Among other things, Eastman said that "Ninja Turtles" would have placed the emphasis on the "ninja" element of the title and would have been heavily influenced by "The Raid" and "Fist of Legend."
We're pretty buzzed about the upcoming "Ninja Turtles" remake over here at MTV Splash Page. We have our own list of dream cast members and even put some of our casting suggestions to the stars themselves, but now it seems we can stop guessing.
The Province is reporting that Paramount Pictures is looking to start filming "Ninja Turtles" in the late summer or early fall, with the plan still to release the project on December 25, 2013. If the report is accurate, then we should start hearing some serious casting news over the next month or so.
We love "The Avengers." We love action figures. You already know how much we love "The Avengers" and action figures together, but our love is even greater today thanks to a new fan-made video that recuts a previous "Avengers" trailer using Marvel Legends action figures with cameos aplenty. Quick spoiler alert: Vision makes everything better.

Last week, one Splash Page reader tweeted that he'd like to see "Community"'s Donald Glover in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot. "Donald Glover as Donatello. Spread the word..." wrote @CinematicESP, and we had to take his Twitter handle seriously.
Not only did we spread the word, we put the question to Glover himself. Glover told MTV News that he had heard about a tweet, but he mentioned that he actually preferred a different turtle.
Not to slight Donatello, Glover said that he prefers "Raphael. I think he's cool," he said. "I mean, Donatello's cool too, but all the stories about him were never that great."
FROM NEXTMOVIE: When we put forth our dream cast for the "Ninja Turtles" reboot last week, we mentioned that our preference would be to hire complete unknowns to voice the heroes in a half-shell. But if one new rumor proves true, it seems that the powers-that-be didn't heed our advice.
Right now, there's buzz circulating 'round the web that rapper Kid Cudi is going to have a part to play in the film, based on tweets from the man himself. It's all rumor and speculation for now, but if you want to know more, head on over to NextMovie to get the full scoop.
The Governor is coming to "The Walking Dead" on television, but he's not done terrorizing the comic book world either. Yet another prose novel starring the thoroughly vile Phillip Blake is on its way, and we've got all the details in today's round of Tights.
It's zombies, Joss Whedon, "Akira" and more in your pair of Tights today! Strap 'em on!
