EXCLUSIVE: Sam Raimi Talks 'Spider-Man 5' And 'Spider-Man 6'—But Will He Direct?

Spider-ManSam Raimi already gave us his thoughts on "Spider-Man 4" villains and when he expects to start shooting the next "Spider-Man" movie in the blockbuster franchise, but once we had him talking about the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler, we had to ask: Will he be back for "Spider-Man 5" and "Spider-Man 6"?

"Every time I make one of the 'Spider-Man' movies, I have to ask myself, is the character still intriguing to me?" Raimi told MTV News. "Do I love the character? Am I dying to tell the next story of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?"

James Vanderbilt Writing 'Spider-Man 5' And 'Spider-Man 6'

Spider-ManWhen David Lindsay-Abaire was brought on to rewrite James Vanderbilt's "Spider-Man 4" script, it was assumed that something didn't quite click with the first scribe's take. That assumption could still be true, but it's not stopping Vanderbilt from joining the web-slinging superhero for further outings.

Variety reports that James Vanderbilt has signed on to write "Spider-Man 5" and "Spider-Man 6" for Sony Pictures Entertainment in a move to shorten the lapse times between sequels of the franchise. Vanderbilt's work on the next two "Spider-Man" films will not only solve this problem, but he'll also get to enact his original plan to concoct an interconnecting story between the fifth and sixth movies. Sam RaimiWith “Drag Me to Hell” rocking the socks off preview audiences and likely on its way to becoming one of the summer’s sleeper hits, director Sam Raimi can finally shift his focus back to the blockbuster franchise that made him a household name. And at the end of June, he’ll be ready to do exactly that with a newly-printed copy of Hollywood’s hottest screenplay.

“Right now, David Lindsay-Abaire, a New York playwright, is working on the screenplay,” Raimi said of the eagerly-anticipated “Spider-Man 4” script that will lay the blueprint for his film, due in theaters May 6, 2011. “He says that he’ll be done in about four weeks with his first draft. Sam Raimi Talks 'Spider-Man' Sequel Double-Shoot, Futures of Kirsten Dunst & The Lizard

Sam RaimiAlthough things weren’t looking too good for awhile, "Spider-Man" has overcome adversities tougher than a Green Goblin-Doc Ock team-up, and now once again has Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi in his corner. But what about Kirsten Dunst?

“Kirsten, I’d love to work with her again,” Raimi explained to us this week, making it sound as if current plans to include Dunst for “Spider-Man 4” and “Spider-Man 5” are still up in the air, despite recent statements that she wants to remain with the franchise. “I hope she’ll be written into it. I couldn’t imagine making one without her, and I think she’s an important part of the movies.” Read More...
