Star Wars: Jedi - The Dark SideWhen it comes to the comic book side of the Star Wars expanded universe, Dark Horse Comics has made a name for itself as the home of original, creative tales that enrich the franchise and build on existing mythology in the most fan-friendly ways.

Last year, we brought you the exclusive announcement of "Star Wars: Knight Errant," another addition to the publisher's long list of ongoing and limited Star Wars series. Today, we bring you the exclusive news of a brand new title hitting shelves in May: "Star Wars: Jedi - The Dark Side."

Featuring a story by Scott Allie and art by Mahmud Asrar (interior/cover) and Stéphane Roux (variant cover), "The Dark Side" follows Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (played by Liam Neeson in "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace") as he's dispatched to prevent a civil war on the homeworld of Xanatos, the Padawan he trained before Obi-Wan Kenobi. Star WarsThe folks behind "Star Wars" fiction in print get free reign to explore different time periods in the science-fiction universe first created by George Lucas decades ago. We've seen what life in the Old Republic was like, when the Sith were a force as large and as powerful as the Empire. We've followed our favorite heroes from the movie trilogies, through the Clone Wars, the dark times of Emperor Palpatine, and the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. We've even seen the distant future, a bleak moment when Palpatine's vision of a Galactic Sith ruling party is realized by one Darth Krayt.

Now, Dark Horse Comics and Del Rey Books are preparing to wind things back to the age before the Sith Order collapsed beneath the tyranny of Darth Bane's Rule of Two.

"Star Wars: Knight Errant" follows Kerra Holt, a lone Jedi Knight operating in Sith territory, far beyond the reach or aid of her Jedi Masters. The ongoing series kicks off in October with a Dark Horse comic written by John Jackson Miller and a tie-in novel (also authored by Miller) to be released next year. Interior art for the comic is provided by Federico Dallocchio.

MTV News has your exclusive first look at two covers from "Knight Errant" featuring the work of artists Joe Quinones and Dave Ross. We also have some details from Miller himself about what fans can look forward to in this new era for the "Star Wars" universe. Read More...

If you're not in tune with The Force, you might not realize that May 21 is the 30th anniversary of the release of "The Empire Strikes Back" in theaters. Considered by many to be the best of the six-film "Star Wars" franchise, "Empire" holds a special place in my heart — mainly because of the toys.

You see, I was one of many kids who owned one of the original, massive AT-AT toys back in the day, and I'm also one of the many who no longer knows what the heck happened to that big, beautiful, four-legged hunk of awesome. Thank god for Hasbro, though, because they've got me — and anyone else longing for their old AT-AT — covered.

Check out the box that arrived at Splash Page HQ this afternoon, complete with Imperial logo stickers, then click on the image for a gallery of un-boxing photos:

Yeah, it's just as awesome as it looks — and then some. Read More...

'Star Wars: The Old Republic'Just in case a cartoon and potential live-action television series isn’t enough to get your “Star Wars” fix, two new spin-off comics will be hitting comic shops and computer screens from Dark Horse Comics this May. Announced during last weekend's New York Comic Con, the new comic book series will be published online and cover two very different time periods in the "Star Wars" mythos.

“Star Wars: The Old Republic,” is set thousands of years previous to the films, and set in the same universe as the publisher’s print series “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.” The series will be written by Rob Chestney, one of the developers for "The Old Republic" video game, and appear biweekly on Fridays at www.starwarstheoldrepublic.com. Sam RaimiIt's day four of Comic-Con which means yes, sadly the end is near. But our coverage is just beginning today. Before the sun sets on San Diego tonight we'll have talked to everyone from Jason Statham and Wes Craven to the cast of the new "Friday the 13th."

Not a bad lineup and it all comes after a Saturday chock full of scoops. If you weren't with us yesterday you missed McG and Anton Yelchin talking "Terminator Salvation," Frank Miller talking about the "300" prequel, and the latest on "The Clone Wars."

Today the news keeps flying fast and furious. Coming up soon right here you'll find the latest on "The Wolfman," breaking news on James Franco's role as a world famous writer, and Sam Raimi with an "Evil Dead" update. And that's only what we know right now. More big surprises are surely on the way as this crazy Comic-Con wraps up.
