Stephen ChowSeth Rogen's "The Green Hornet" has seen its share of setbacks, almost all involving Stephen Chow. Now, it appears that "Hornet" has hit yet another delay, and will be in need of a new Kato, the role Chow was set to play.

SpoilerTV has discovered an open casting call for the part of Kato. However, they are looking for a non-specific Asian, and no longer require any martial arts experience -- a description that could shed some light on Rogen's take on the classic character. Read More...

Seth RogenThat buzzing you hear in your ear? That's Seth Rogen’s "Green Hornet" movie -- because it's not quite dead yet. In an email to Hitfix, who previously reported that production was breaking down on the "Green Hornet" set, Seth Rogen says the show is still going on, but they are currently in search of a director.

"'The Green Hornet' has many people working for it, including production designers, costume designers and many conceptual artists, office staff, etc.," wrote Rogen. "[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we're able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibility, it should still hit the release date." Stephen ChowEvery time things seem like they could be rolling along for Seth Rogen's film based on "The Green Hornet," the wheels seem to come off the project. Late last week, we brought you the news that actor/director Stephen Chow would no longer be directing the film (as was announced back in September).

"But wait," we told you, "there's still hope! After all, he's still planning to play Kato in the film, right?"

Well, now it looks like that might not be a sure thing, either. According to the Associated Press, Chow is trying to free up time to work on a mysterious "superhero comedy" with Jack Black -- and "Green Hornet" could be back-burnered in favor of the unnamed project. Read More...

Stephen ChowSeth Rogen's remake of "The Green Hornet" has just hit a snag, like all of the Hornet adaptations before it. According to Variety, it lost its director, Stephen Chow.

Chow will still play the role of Kato, but he has dropped out of directing due to creative differences. It's not clear if the differences were with its writers, Rogen and Evan Goldberg, or with the studio and producer Neal Moritz.

It's very possible that the differences arose over what tone the film is taking. Chow is known for his broad comedy, and given that funnyman Rogen is writing and starring in the film, it seemed obvious where this remake was going. Perhaps the plans have changed, and now a serious Green Hornet is in the works? Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Speaking with MTV News last November, writer/star Seth Rogen promised he was buffing up for the role of Britt Reid in "The Green Hornet," he was looking very strongly at Stephen Chow for the role of Kato, and the movie wouldn't follow an origin story.

Well, two out of three ain't bad.

Looking more svelte and in-shape than ever, Rogen now insists that his action-hero comedy — which he likened in tone to "True Lies" — will follow a more traditional "beginnings" arc.

Despite the vociferous complaining from fans who initially objected to Rogen's command of the project, the funnyman says an origin story is necessary because, according to him, there aren't really that many fans.

Michael PeñaDuring a recent press event for "The Lucky Ones", actor Michael Peña revealed to IESB that he was offered a part in "The Green Hornet" -- adding one more name to the short list of those associated with the project.

Peña wouldn't say which part he had been offered, only that Seth Rogen -- who is currently writing the script for the film with plans to star as its vigilante hero -- made him the offer. This news follows on the heels of an announcement earlier this week that Stephen Chow ("Kung Fu Hustle") would not only direct the film, but also co-star alongside Rogen as the hero's partner, Kato. Stephen ChowOne last big announcement before the weekend -- Columbia Pictures has announced that actor/director Stephen Chow -- he of "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle" fame -- will team with Seth Rogen on the upcoming "Green Hornet" silver screen adaptation, due to hit theaters on June 25, 2010. Chow will not only co-star in the film opposite Rogen as the Green Hornet's faithful sidekick, Kato, but will also direct the film.

In a statement released by the studio, Chow said, "I'm excited to be taking on 'The Green Hornet' -- obviously, I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true." Read More...
