If Taylor Kitsch is to be believed, it looks like the ship has sailed on his time with Gambit.

When MTV News caught up with Kitsch while he was promoting his latest action flick, "John Carter," he didn't seem too optimistic about Gambit, his "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" character, making a cameo in Hugh Jackman's big screen follow-up, "The Wolverine." That being said, he didn't seem too broken up about it either.

"That's up to Hugh, if he wanted it. We'll see. I don't think I'm in it, I haven't heard anything," Kitsch said. "I got my plate full, man. I'm pretty happy where I'm at."

Taylor KitschFROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Taylor Kitsch, known for his heartthrob status on “Friday Night Lights” and recently as the Cajun mutant Gambit in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” has picked his next role, and it looks like he’ll be going into outer space. Taylor has signed on to play the title character in the new movie “John Carter of Mars,” which adapts the classic pulp sci-fi novel of the same name by “Tarzan” creator Edgar Rice Burroughs.

GambitActor Taylor Kitsch thinks his "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" character Gambit would be prime fodder for a solo spin-off movie, even if the mutant isn't making a return for "X-Men: First Class." The "Friday Night Lights" star already shared his proposal for a darker take on Gambit, but he has a few thoughts on bringing the ragin' Cajun face to face with his comic book love interest Rogue, played in previous X-Men films by Anna Paquin.

"There are two things with that -- she's such a great actress and I'd love to work with her, and that would be cool to see Gambit and Rogue," Kitsch told MTV News. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: All week long, we've been chatting up the stars of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and getting the scoop on the razor-clawed old friends and sword-wielding cinematic rookies that fuel the flick. But there's only one name that fans have been shouting ever since the original "X-Men" film began its development: Gambit.

"I remember as a kid seeing him [in the comics]," 28-year-old "Friday Night Lights" actor Taylor Kitsch recalled, explaining his memories of the beloved mutant he finally puts on the silver screen on Friday. "I remember thinking, 'Man, this guy is cool!' and 'He really just doesn't give a sh-- about what other people think!'. And those are two pretty incredible things to play and bring to life."

Ever since the enigmatic Remy Etienne LeBeau was introduced in the pages of "Uncanny X-Men" in 1990, he has ranked among the most popular members of the mutant universe. Born in Louisiana and flavored by some early experiences as a professional thief, he came to be known as Gambit — a term that refers to his ability to maneuver into a position of advantage, both in battle and at games of chance.

For more from Taylor Kitsch on Gambit and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," as well as video interviews with the "Wolverine" cast, head over to Movies.MTV.com.

Yesterday, I wrote a confessional blog entry talking about how guilty I feel for falling in love with Deadpool. But going into a recent screening of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” I was all about eyeballing one long-awaited character: Gambit.

Although he’s relatively young in the Marvel universe, the New Orleans-born card-shark has long been among my favorite “X-Men” characters. So maybe some fans will allow me one more completely embarrassing revelation: When I walked into a room to interview Taylor Kitsch this past weekend, I noticed that playing cards had been tossed all over the floor for ambiance.

And a chill went right up my geeky spine. Read More...

GambitHugh Jackman headlines "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" when it opens around the U.S. this week, but it's on the shoulders of Taylor Kitsch to convince Fox to bring Gambit back to the big screen.

The X-Men's resident thief and sharp-tongued Cajun has long been a fan favorite in comic books, and now Kitsch has high hopes for the character on film. He even has suggestions for where Fox could take the character in a "Gambit" solo film.

"I would love to go darker," Kitsch told MTV News. "[Gambit] in Vegas was fun, but I want to go into the Thieves Guild part of his story." Read More...

The release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is less than two months away, so it's no surprise that the Merry Marvel Marketing Machine is shifting into high gear to promote both the film and anything connected with its movie-friendly mutants. Today, a trio of new "Wolverine" movie promo images hit the 'Net, featuring Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), Agent Zero (Daniel Henney) and William Stryker (Danny Huston).

Hugh Jackman as WolverineThere was a lot for comics fans to give thanks for the last few days -- especially for anyone interested in movie news about Marvel's mutants. Last week we brought you the first word on a potential sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" straight from the mouth of Logan himself, Hugh Jackman, and now we have a few new images of Jackman getting his rage on and giving his claws some air.

Empire debuted the two images of Jackman as Wolverine in their latest issue, but cooked up an extra Thanksgiving treat for the fanboys (and fangirls) out there with the first official image of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Marvel's card-tossing Cajun. The "Friday Night Lights" actor shared some thoughts about the role back in October, but this is our first decent look at Kitsch in the film.

We've posted the photo of Kitsch as Gambit, as well as one of the Wolverine images, after the jump -- but be sure to keep an eye on Splash Page this week for more on the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" crew, including Logan, Gambit, Deadpool and Co. Read More...
