Sure, we're all looking forward to Marvel's superhero team-up extravaganza "The Avengers" in 2012, but seeing Iron Man, Captain America and Thor on the screen together isn't the only reason it has fans excited.

"Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau recently wondered how the supernatural world of Thor would blend on the big screen with the reality-based universe Iron Man, and he's not alone in questioning how "Avengers" will handle this mix. So, when I had the chance to pose the question to "Avengers" comic book writer and one of the chief architects of the current Marvel Universe, Brian Bendis, I had to ask what advice he's giving the Marvel movie team when it comes to mixing Thor and Iron Man.

"My advice is, has been, and will be, that much like the comics, you look at movies like the 'Oceans' movies that have all these different flavors, you put the flavors together and you cook 'em," Bendis told MTV News. "It absolutely can be done." Read more...

The AvengersWhen Jon Favreau said he would not be available to direct "The Avengers" for Marvel, he opened the doors for speculation about who would be behind the camera.

Favreau's "Iron Man" breathed life into the current wave of Marvel films culminating in 2012's gigantic crossover event, but someone else will have to step in to bring his storyline together with "The Incredible Hulk," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "Thor."

Here are five directors who might be able to pull it off and make the "Avengers" movie fans want to see. Read more...

When MTV News caught up with "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau at the "Couples Retreat" junket a few weeks ago in Bora Bora, we were determined to get the filmmaker's take on how his much-anticipated sequel would connect with "The Avengers"—even if it took a bumpy ride in a golf cart to make the conversation happen.

Along with confirming that "Incredible Hulk" star Edward Norton won't be appearing in "Iron Man 2" and that Favreau won't be directing "The Avengers," the filmmaker shared some thoughts on his approach to making the Marvel movies all tie together. Read more...

PowersEarlier this year, it was announced that Brian Michael Bendis“Powers” had been optioned as a pilot for FX. And now it appears that the project has taken significant steps forward.

In an interview with G4, Bendis revealed that while the “Powers” TV pilot hasn’t yet been given the green light to shoot, a showrunner and a director are firmly on board.

“Kevin Falls is our showrunner,” said Bendis. “[He] is the Emmy award-winning producer of 'West Wing' and 'Sports Night.' Much higher up on the food chain than I thought we were going to get. Our director is Michael Dinner, who directed the 'Bionic Woman' pilot and 'Sons of Anarchy.'" Read more...

Marvel Movies - AvengersIt's not a secret that "Iron Man," "Thor" and "The First Avenger: Captain America" are all laying the groundwork for a combined film in "The Avengers." Several filmmakers and producers at Marvel Studios have confirmed as much, and the very existence of a release date for "The Avengers" makes it clear that Marvel's holy trinity of heroes will join forces in 2012.

Marvel reinforced the eventual team-up with their presence at yesterday's Brand Licensing Exhibition in London. Bleeding Cool covered the event and spotted a group of posters that Marvel Studios is touting with an "Avengers Assemble" slogan.

The new logos are slightly different from those seen previously during June's Las Vegas Licensing Expo (posted here), which featured the tagline in the midst of a massive S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia, set in the center of logos for "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers." Last week, "Incredible Hulk" star Edward Norton told us why he likes the idea of Marvel's green-skinned behemoth being the destructive force that forces Iron Man, Captain America and Thor to team up in "The Avengers."

However, while we had Norton talking about superheroes, we had to ask him yet another burning question on the minds of comic book movie fans: Will he be the one playing Bruce Banner when "Avengers" (or "Iron Man 2" or any of the other Marvel movies) come around?

"It's purely a function of time," said Norton. "It's always about just working things out on the schedule." Read more...

Ever since the moment "The Avengers" movie became official, there's been speculation about what the plot will entail—specifically, what force could be so great that it would need the combined efforts of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the stars of the rest of Marvel's solo movies to share the spotlight. The most obvious answer has always been Hulk, the green-skinned behemoth that first forced the eclectic group of heroes to team up in the comic book world.

When MTV News caught up with Edward Norton, the actor who brought Hulk (or rather, his alter ego Bruce Banner) to the big screen in 2008's "Incredible Hulk," we asked whether he could see the character return to the screen for a brawl with Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

"In the comics, there was always a tension between the rest of the superhero community and he was always this problem... They treated him as this problem," said Norton. Read more...

Avengers"Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn already has one comic book movie in the works, and his name's been dropped in connection with a potential adaptation of "American Jesus," as well as being attached to "Thor" well before Kenneth Branagh joined the project.

So, since it's pretty safe to say Vaughn knows his comics fare, we had to ask him whether there's a dream project out there that he's dying to bring from comics to the big screen—other than "Kick-Ass," of course.

"[I'd] love to do 'The Avengers,'" Vaughn told MTV News. "And Superman... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman." Read more...

Scarlett JohanssonNow that fans have finally gazed upon Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, what are the odds that we'll get to see her again after "Iron Man 2" hits theaters? According to Johansson herself, the chances are pretty good.

When the actress spoke with Ireland Online about her role in "Iron Man 2," she indicated that Black Widow could have a significant part to play in the upcoming "The Avengers" film.

"I hope I get to come back and do it again," she said. "The character certainly comes back. We see that she does in the comics and certainly she is a big part of The Avengers. I don't know if that is where it's going to go but she is definitely a big part of The Avengers." Read more...

The AvengersThe future of the "Hulk" film franchise is uncertain, thanks to a poorly reviewed first movie and a moderately received reboot. But the final scene of "The Incredible Hulk" revealed a tie-in to the greater Marvel movieverse by way of a Robert Downey Jr cameo, which begs the question: just what is Marvel's plan for the Green Goliath?

As far as "Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier is concerned, Bruce Banner could continue on the big screen, but likely not through his directorial vision. The filmmaker told Hero Complex that he's contracted for one more Marvel movie, but he'd rather tackle a different character than the Hulk. Read more...
