Way back in October 2008, Neil Gaiman first broke the news to MTV that his children's story "The Graveyard Book" was being adapted into a live-action movie. Since then, the book has gone on to win numerous awards, and nabbed screenwriter/director Neil Jordan ("The Brave One") to write and direct the adaptation.

When I caught up with Gaiman during the C2E2 convention in Chicago last month (he was there to speak on behalf of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund), I managed to get a brief update on the "Graveyard Book" movie.

"We are waiting for Neil's next draft of the script," Gaiman told MTV News. Read More...

Heralded as the biggest showdown in fake news history since the epic Jon Stewart/Jim Cramer face-off from a week prior, acclaimed author Neil Gaiman boldly confronted Colbert Nation leader Stephen Colbert this Monday on "The Colbert Report." How would the admittedly British writer fare against accusations that he won the prestigious Newberry Medal -- an American award -- by stealing it from American writers? Find out in the clip below:

"Obviously, until you write 'F--k It, We're All Going To Die,' the Newberry Medal is going to go to people like me," Gaiman said in response to Colbert's earlier idea for his own, hopeful-Newberry-winning book. Read More...

On Monday, Gaiman was awarded the esteemed John Newbery Medal by the American Library Association -- one of the highest achievements that can be given for childrens literature -- for his novel, "The Graveyard Book." And yesterday, on the book's feature film adaptation front, Gaiman was able to announce that screenwriter/director Neil Jordan ("The Brave One") will be bringing his talents to the project.

Neil GaimanNeil Gaiman, the prolific multimedia scribe who we've been mentioning quite a bit lately in reference to the upcoming 3D animated adaptation of his novel "Coraline," has been awarded the John Newbery Medal -- one of the most prestiguous awards for children literature -- by the American Library Association. Gaiman received the award for his recently published story "The Graveyard Book," about a boy raised by ghosts.

The recipient of the award, announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (a division of the ALA), is judged to have provided the year’s "most outstanding contribution to children’s literature."

“A child named Nobody, an assassin, a graveyard and the dead are the perfect combination in this deliciously creepy tale, which is sometimes humorous, sometimes haunting and sometimes surprising,” said Newbery Committee Chair Rose V. Treviño of "The Graveyard Book." Read More...

Neil GaimanWith Halloween mere days away, it was a nice surprise when Neil Gaiman dropped by the MTV offices to discuss his latest project, "The Graveyard Book" -- now number one on its respective New York Times list. Given the intense interest in Hollywood to adapt it before it ever came out, we had to ask: Will there be a movie version?

Yes, according to Gaiman.

"I don't know if I can talk about this, but seeing that you've asked me, and seeing that I haven't been told by anybody that I can't talk about it," Neil revealed, "but yes."

Despite the various Hollywood studios who bid on "The Graveyard Book" -- a couple of which proposed to make the story about a boy raised by ghosts into an animated feature -- the author decided he wanted a live-action version instead ("I want to see the ghosts for real. I want to be able to touch the graveyard"). Read More...
