Nicolas CageJust as Stephen Chow's involvement in "Green Hornet" has officially come to an end, word comes in that two other actors are circling the project.

Along with confirming an earlier report that actress Cameron Diaz is eyeing a role in the Michel Gondry-directed "The Green Hornet," Variety adds that "Kick-Ass" actor Nicolas Cage is in early negotiations to join the cast of the Seth Rogen movie as well.

If the casting pans out, Cage will play a gangster villain opposite Rogen's masked crime fighter. The report also notes that Diaz's character is a reporter and love interest for the titular hero. Read more...

Seth RogenWhile Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry's "Green Hornet" movie appears to have suffered a bit of a setback in the last 24 hours with the departure of actor Stephen Chow, one aspect that doesn't seem to be troubling the project is getting its star into crime-fighter shape.

In a video journal posted to promote the upcoming, geek-friendly Simon Pegg/Nick Frost film "Paul," Rogen is seen in a form-fitting, motion-capture suit used to create the CGI character he'll also be voicing in the project. And to be honest, I almost didn't recognize the slimmed-down "Pineapple Express" star.

With production on "The Green Hornet" expected to kick off at some point soon (given its current release date of July 9, 2010), it's no surprise that the actor is getting prepped to take on the role of the classic hero -- but it looks like Rogen is definitely taking the job of getting into superhero shape seriously. Stephen ChowSeth Rogen's "The Green Hornet" has seen its share of setbacks, almost all involving Stephen Chow. Now, it appears that "Hornet" has hit yet another delay, and will be in need of a new Kato, the role Chow was set to play.

SpoilerTV has discovered an open casting call for the part of Kato. However, they are looking for a non-specific Asian, and no longer require any martial arts experience -- a description that could shed some light on Rogen's take on the classic character. Read more...

Cameron DiazSeth Rogen's planned adaptation of "The Green Hornet" might be getting a little help from Heaven above -- or, if nothing else, the film could be touched by an "Angel."

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Cameron Diaz, she of the "Charlie's Angels" franchise, could be playing the female lead opposite Rogen in the Michel Gondry-directed "The Green Hornet." While a deal has yet to be signed, EW indicates that the actress is in early talks for the role. Read more...

Seth RogenIf you've been looking forward to Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry's live-action "Green Hornet" movie, it looks like you'll have to wait a little longer to see the pulp hero's upcoming return to the big screen. Sony announced today that it's moving the release date of "Green Hornet" from June 25 to July 9, 2010.

According to Variety, the move was made to allow room for the studio's Adam Sandler-penned comedy, "Grown Ups," which will feature Sandler and a long list of other popular comedy actors. While "Grown Ups" is currently the only film scheduled to open June 25, Rogen and "Green Hornet" co-star Stephen Chow will now go up against the animated film "Despicable Me" and the Robert Rodriguez film "Predators." By now you know that Seth Rogen has a film adaptation of "Green Hornet" in the works with director Michel Gondry, but what you might not know is that comics writer and filmmaker Kevin Smith was once attached to write and direct an adaptation of that very same character. While Smith's film never got off the ground, he's getting a second crack at the masked crime-fighter in an upcoming comic book series for Dynamite Entertainment.

We got the details from the veteran creator when he dropped by Splash Page HQ this week, and along with telling us why his upcoming "Batman: The Widening Gyre" series for DC could be his last Batman story ever, Smith explained why he had lots of opportunities to discuss "Green Hornet" with Rogen, but avoided the subject entirely.

According to Smith, he initially turned down the "Green Hornet" series due to his past problems launching the film, and told Dynamite publisher Nick Barrucci, "I've been down the 'Hornet' road and it never works out for me." Read more...

Megan FoxMegan Fox has earned herself a good chunk of geek cred with starring roles in both "Transformers" films, but she's just now starting to cross over into the land of comic book cinema. The 22-year-old actress claims to have been a lifelong comic reader with a penchant for the late Michael Turner's artwork -- which is why her upcoming turn as the lead character in "Fathom" is nothing short of a dream come true.

"['Fathom' is] a comic book property by my favorite artist, Michael Turner," Fox told USA Weekend during a photo shoot with herself and soon-to-be "Green Hornet" star Seth Rogen. "It's about this underwater race of people, and it's plausible, really, because so much of the ocean is unexplored. We don't really know what's under there. It could be happening, which I like." 'Green Hornet'Don’t look now, but old radio serials are suddenly hotter than any Wii game or iPhone app. These days, visionary director Michel Gondry is hard at work with Seth Rogen bringing back “The Green Hornet,” Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp are gaining momentum on “The Lone Ranger,” and the two worlds are making plans to meet. Well, kinda.

Flashback to January 31, 1936, when a new program entitled “The Green Hornet” premiered on Detroit radio station WXYZ. Envisioned as a worlds-away spinoff to the immensely popular show “The Lone Ranger,” masked crimefighter Britt Reid was explained to be the son of LR’s comic-relief nephew Dan. Although their connection faded as Green Hornet became more closely linked with Batman in their '60s TV shows, it returned as recently as the late-'80s when a “Hornet” comic book series published by NOW Comics had a portrait of The Lone Ranger hanging on Reid’s wall, a sly reference to their familial ties. “Yeah, I think we’re going to have Van Williams,” Gondry revealed to MTV News during a recent interview. “We’re going to find a cameo for him.” Read more...

Michel GondryEver since Seth Rogen told us about the top-secret fight scene that director Michel Gondry shot with his own money as an audition for “The Green Hornet” movie, I’ve been dying to know what visual tricks the distinctive filmmaker has up his sleeve. Now, Gondry is finally talking about the groundbreaking technique he’ll be bringing to the film.

“It was not elaborate,” Gondry modestly began the MTV News interview. “I’m glad [Rogen is even] paying any attention to what I’m suggesting.” Read more...
