As production on director Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of “Thor” continues to heat up, Idris Elba is the latest addition to the cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elba will portray Heimdall, the guardian of the Bifrost bridge to Asgard. In Marvel’s “Thor” mythology, Heimdall is also the brother of Sif.
Elba — who is perhaps best known for his role as Stringer Bell on “The Wire” — recently finished filming his part in “The Losers”, an adaptation of the Vertigo comic by Andy Diggle and Jock. Read more...
The last 24 hours have been exciting for comics-related movie watchers on Twitter. Not only did some behind-the-scenes posts pop up from "Thor" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," two of the biggest upcoming releases in the genre, but Rob Liefeld dropped an eye-opening bomb about his defunct "Badrock" film — which he says almost happened in 1996 with "Twilight Saga: New Moon" director Chris Weitz.
Aside from those tweets, there's also a pretty spectacular Terry Moore Spider-Man sketch waiting after the jump. Check that out, along with Tony Moore's answer to fanboy hate, Simon Pegg's thoughts on Scotty in "Star Trek" and a prediction for the English language from Jeffrey Rowland.

Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada and “New Avengers” writer Brian Michael Bendis have offered first hand accounts of their recent visit to the set of director Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of “Thor.”
“I could listen to Branagh talk about ‘Thor’ all day long,” related Quesada on Twitter. “Cast is in place, sets are being built and screenplay is brilliant. Marveldom rules!”
Meanwhile, Bendis added on his own Twitter that “Thor movie meeting with Ken Branagh was over the top amazing. Visited the sets! I was in Odin's chamber!” Read more...
Last week, I talked to one of comics greatest living legends, Stan Lee, about his arrival on the Twitter scene and why it makes him feel like he's writing his "Stan's Soapbox" column again. While Lee had some fun stuff to say about the world of micro-blogging, I also had to ask him about a few other things on comics fans' minds these days — namely, whether he'll be making the expected cameos in future Marvel movies.
"I had lunch with Branagh, [who's] the nicest guy in the world as well as the most talented," Lee told MTV News when asked if he's been contacted about a "Thor" cameo yet. "Months ago, when he was first starting on the movie, he said he would get a cameo for me." Read more...
The Warriors Three, a trio of Asgardians that join the God of Thunder's cause in "Thor," have officially been cast — depending on where you get your news, that is.
Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano and Stuart Townsend have reportedly landed the roles of Volstagg the Valiant, Hogun the Grim and Fandral the Dashing in "Thor," Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the classic Marvel character. But some are already doubting the news, given the fact that the initial Variety report has been removed from the website.
[UPDATE: Marvel.com has confirmed the casting of Stevenson, Asano and Townsend.]

With "Thor" shooting set to begin in January, it's no surprise that the actors portraying the inhabitants of Asgard are getting in shape for their godly roles.
Jaimie Alexander, who joined the "Thor" cast in September as the "skilled Asgardian warrior" Sif, has been posting updates from the front lines of her intense training regimen. According to Alexander's Twitter feed, the "Kyle XY" actress has not only been pumping up for the role, but she's also been getting in a hefty amount of stunt training, too.
"Gearing up for a full week of stunts! I LOVE MY JOB!" she posted yesterday. Read more...
NBC’s recent order of six additional episodes for the third season of “Chuck” will prevent Zachary Levi from appearing in director Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of “Thor.”
In an interview with USA Weekend, Levi revealed that he was cast as Fandral — a heroic adventurer who along with Hogun the Grim and Volstagg comprise the trio known as the Warriors Three — before being forced to back out of the role to fulfill his commitment to “Chuck.”
Levi also disclosed that he was initially approached to audition for the title role in “Thor,” which he turned down despite starting a training regimen for the movie. “I’m tall and in pretty good shape, but I’m not big and girthy like that,” said Levi. Read more...

Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Stellan Skarsgard have also been cast in presently unspecified roles. Read more...
FROM MULTIPLAYER: Captain America and Thor will both have big years in 2011. The two Marvel superheroes and original Avengers have their own feature films scheduled to hit theaters, but as of today they also have their own Sega games marked on the calendar.
Though "scheduled release dates are subject to change," according to a Marvel Q3 earnings report, "Thor" is tagged for May and "Captain America" for July. Those releases coincide with Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" and Joe Johnston's "The First Avenger: Captain America," respectively.
Sega's "Iron Man 2" game, meanwhile, is slotted for April 2010, one month ahead of its movie counterpart starring Robert Downey Jr.

This morning, fans all across the world woke up to news that Sir Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to join "Thor" as Odin, the ruler of Asgard and father to the titular God of Thunder. Given the Oscar-winning actor's high profile status, Hopkins' attachment to "Thor" is certainly a surprise, albeit a welcome one.
Still, that's not the only reason to be surprised—after all, wasn't Brian Blessed supposed to be Odin?
Blessed, a longtime collaborator of "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh, was mentioned back in June as a veritable lock for the part of Odin. With Hopkins now securing the part, it's worth wondering why Blessed's attachment was considered such a certainty in the first place. As it turns out, the rumor had a pretty solid source—none other than Blessed himself. Read more...
