The “ThunderCats” reboot has begun airing on Cartoon Network, bringing back the iconic characters with a new twist. Will Friedle of “Boys Meets World” voices Lion-O, and as someone who was a big fan of the '80s show, he sounds thrilled to be involved.

Speaking with Newsarama, he said, “I think it's been 20, 25 years, the characters are still vibrant, and still iconic, and I think enough time has passed now to where some of the original fans might have accepted a new version a little bit easier than had they done it five years after the show had ended.”

Friedle also believes this “ThunderCats” can be darker than the original, and that more people would be accepting of that. He credits the dark cartoon “Batman: The Animated Series” for this change.

We've seen "ThunderCats" character designs, "ThunderCats" toys, and even a trailer for the upcoming reboot of the "ThunderCats" animated series, but one thing we haven't heard much about so far is the voice cast — specifically, the actors voicing key players like Lion-O and his grizzled mentor, Panthro.

When MTV News spoke with "The Cleveland Show" cast member Kevin Michael Richardson during a recent Fox press event, the accomplished voice actor ran through a list of some of his upcoming projects and one particular title caught our ear: "ThunderCats." Asked about the project, the actor revealed that he's voicing the nunchuk-wielding veteran, Panthro, and dropped the name of the actor voicing Lion-O, too.

"I love Panthro, so to play him, yeah I'm very very happy," Richardson told MTV News. "The state of the art animation they have today is... That's exactly what it is — state of the art." Read More...

ThunderCatsEver since we first got word of the new "ThunderCats" animated series premiering this year, we've been waiting to see our first official footage from the much-anticipated reboot. And now the wait is over...

Debuting this weekend on Cartoon Network, a new "ThunderCats" promo offered our first glimpse at how Lion-O and the rest of the gang from Thundera will look when the series finally airs. While the new trailer gave us our first look at the series' heroes and villains in action, there's still a lot we haven't seen from the upcoming cartoon — including a few things we noticed during our "ThunderCats" toy preview during Toy Fair 2011. ThunderCatsThere's no arguing that the upcoming "ThunderCats" animated series is one of the year's most-anticipated projects around Splash Page HQ, and at last weekend's Toy Fair 2011 we got our first look at the new line of toys that was being launched alongside the series.

But information about the toys wasn't the only "ThunderCats" intel we received during the show.

Along with learning a few more things about the animated series from our tour of Bandai's "ThunderCats" toy line, there was also a supplemental video playing in the showroom that revealed a few cool little details about what to expect when Lion-O and Co. return to television. There isn't anything too spoilery to be learned, but hardcore fans should find some of these elements interesting. (I know I did!) Read More...

ThunderCatsWay back in July 2009, almost a full year before the new "ThunderCats" animated series was announced, some concept art hit the 'net from the scrapped "ThunderCats" movie that was originally intended to bring the characters form the beloved 1980s series to the big screen. Now, some test footage from the "ThunderCats" movie has also found its way online — and it offers our first, in-action look at the movie that might've been.

Posted over at Flixist, the footage shows Lion-O practicing with the Sword of Omens, only to be interrupted by the reptilian villain Slithe (who also sports a new look for the CGI film) and dropping the sword. After brawling a bit on the side of a canyon, Lion-O recovers the Sword of Omens and issues the familiar "Thunder... Thunder... ThunderCats... Ho!" call.

The film's new "ThunderCats" logo is then revealed, and when the action resumes, Lion-O is crouching over Slithe's unconscious body. Read More...
