Transformers #1Last week, we gave you an exclusive peek at "Transformers: Continuum," the one-shot comic that catches readers up with the current Transformers continuity before IDW Publishing kicks off its new, ongoing series featuring the robots in disguise. The first issue of "Transformers" #1 arrived on shelves today, but the publisher has already announced two big happenings in the series' premiere issue.

Consider this your SPOILER ALERT, folks — but I guess the headline already gave this one away.

IDW has revealed that the Autobots' iconic leader, Optimus Prime, will be leaving office at the end of the first issue, concerned that the Autobots' war with the Decepticons has actually done more harm than good for the inhabitants of Earth. And if you're the sort that doesn't mind reading the last page first, you're in luck — because we have the final page of "Transformers" #1. Read more...

Transformers: ContinuumA new chapter begins in the Transformers universe this month as IDW Publishing launches a regular, ongoing "Transformers" comic book series featuring Optimus Prime, Megatron and the rest of the robots in disguise.

However, before the new series can kick off, there's a lot of "Transformers" history to make sense of and fit into the property's comic book history. That's why IDW is releasing "Transformers: Continuum" this week, featuring a 32-page, ad-free take on the key players in the next stage of Transformers lore, covering everything from "Infiltration" to the recent "All Hail Megatron" series.

IDW has offered Splash Page readers an exclusive preview at "Transformers: Continuum," featuring a story by Andy Schmidt and art by Ken Christensen. Read more...

WolverineA pair of DVDs get the spotlight this week, one giving the origin treatment to Marvel's clawed mutant and the other taking us back to the origins of Hasbro's robots in disguise.

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (Two-Disc Special Edition): We've already told you all about the film itself, so what does the DVD offer? Along with a variety of "Making Of" and behind-the-scenes featurettes (one features Stan Lee and Len Wein reflecting on the character's history), the two-disc DVD and Blu-Ray editions both feature an assortment of deleted and alternate scenes.

However, rather than simply providing another take on existing shots, some of the extra footage offers interesting spins on the existing material. Read more...

TransformersThe reported $600 million "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" has taken in worldwide means that giant robots are on a lot of people's minds this summer, and IDW Publishing hopes that will still be the case in November when they launch the first of three new titles starring the popular robots in disguise.

The "Transformers" moniker has a long history in comics, and IDW has kept the shelves full of Starscream and Megatron miniseries for quite a while now. IDW's new lineup, however, will be led by the 'bots' first ongoing title in years.

"This is the first ongoing 'Transformers' series for IDW, and there's a good reason to do it now," said IDW editor Andy Schmidt. "These stories are too big and too important to contain in even several volumes of miniseries." Read more...

Transformers: Revenge of the FallenFROM MOVIES BLOG: Over the years, the Transformers have occasionally crossed over with other fun franchises. There have been Transformers/"Star Wars" toys. The Autobots teamed up with Marvel’s New Avengers team. There have been several comics in which the Transformers worked against or alongside the G.I. Joe team. In one of the early comic issues, the Autobot called Cliffjumper even teamed up with the amazing Spider-Man.

In the movie world, plenty have enjoyed similar team-ups. Look at "Freddy Vs. Jason" or "Aliens Vs. Predator." With "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" freshly released in theaters, why not push the envelope a bit further? Here's a list of some crossovers that I think would be a lot fun to watch, each supplied with my own idea of how the story could bring the characters together. Enjoy!

Check out the full list of "Transformers Crossovers We'd Like To See" over at MoviesBlog.MTV.com.

Marvel TransformersWith "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" hitting theaters today, it's easy to forget that, along with blockbuster movies of the live-action and animated variety, long-running cartoon series and hundreds of toys, Hasbro's shape-changing robots have a long history in the comics world, too.

Earlier this week, we gave you our list of the five most important "Transformers" comics you should check out, and now we thought it might be worth taking a trip down memory lane with Optimus Prime, Megatron and the rest of the "Robots in Disguise" and examine the twists and turns of their long journey on the printed page. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" hits theaters June 24, but comic book readers know that they've never had to wait for a fix of stories involving the popular giant robots. Along with the regular stable of "Transformers" series and one-shots they put on shelves each month, IDW Publishing will also be offering up the official comic book adaptation of the much-anticipated "Transformers" sequel -- with an exclusive cover that will debut at BotCon 2009, the annual celebration of all things Transformers.

Featuring an image by artist Don Figueroa, the BotCon-exclusive issue will kick off IDW's adaptation of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and be available at the publisher's booth. FROM MTV.COM: Last we heard from Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), he'd just helped his Transformer buddies save the world. Now, as the much-anticipated sequel picks up, all Witwicky wants is to quit being a hero for a while and become a regular college kid. This being a Michael Bay film, however, don't expect Witwicky's hopes for peace and quiet to last very long.

How exactly that tranquility will be interrupted — and what exactly will transpire as "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" gets going — is anything but clear at this point. Plot details are still very much under wraps. But two of the film's co-stars, Ramon Rodriguez and Isabel Lucas, gave MTV News some fresh insight into what we can expect when the film hits theaters June 24.
