General Zod may well be Krypton's most hated villain, but Terence Stamp's appearance in "Superman II" as the escaped Phantom Zone convict also turned him into a fan-favorite character. So it's no surprise that Zack Snyder's upcoming "Superman" reboot could feature the extraterrestrial criminal as a key villain (as was previously rumored) — and Warner Bros. reportedly to have their eye on Viggo Mortensen for the role.

Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have tagged the "Lord of the Rings" star as a "person of interest," according to anonymous sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.

The powers-that-be are still looking at other actors, though Mortensen getting the gig would amount to marquee casting for what we can assume to be one of the film's key roles. Read More...

The Dark TowerWhen Roland Deschain begins his quest to reach "The Dark Tower," he'll have more than a few comic books to draw his inspiration from.

"The Dark Tower" director Ron Howard spoke with Hero Complex about his task of adapting Stephen King's classic fantasy books as both a film trilogy and an accompanying television series. During the interview, Howard revealed that the Marvel Comics tie-in issues would play a role in his vision of the seven-part novel series.

"It's the ongoing evolution of the characters and the discovery," Howard said of the "Dark Tower" comic books. "There are new interpretations of the rules of the world and the story. It's a really useful and compelling part of this already fascinating creative journey that we're on." Read More...

The Dark TowerA live-action adaptation of "The Dark Tower" is finally arriving thanks to a partnership between Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman, Brian Grazer, Universal Pictures and NBC Universal Television Entertainment. But there's a catch — Stephen King's classic novel series is not only getting the big screen treatment with three film adaptations, but an accompanying television series drawing inspiration from the Marvel Comics prequels as well.

Clearly, whoever signs on for the lead role of Roland Deschain is committing to something huge. With three films and two seasons of television in the works, the would-be gunslinger is going to have a whole lot of "Dark Tower" in his life over the next several years.

That's certainly an important consideration in finding the right Roland, but there are many other factors to pay attention to as well, not the least of which is the fact that Roland is one of the most nuanced and complicated roles in King's library of characters. It requires an actor who can really sink his teeth into someone who isn't always a pleasant guy, to put it mildly, but still possesses some redeeming qualities. Read More...

Worry not, Punisher fans — Frank Castle has come home.

Announced at the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, the rights for the Punisher have returned to Marvel, allowing the studio to put their character back on the big or small screen in anyway that they see fit. It's excellent news for Castle fans who feel the character hasn't gotten the proper live-action treatment he deserves. With Marvel back at the helm, it's a sure bet that Punisher is going to head back to theaters with a vengeance sometime in the near future.

But with three actors having played Castle over the last 21 years, who could possibly fill the street-level judge, jury and executioner's shoes next? After the jump, you can check out some of our suggestions for who Marvel should cast as the next Punisher! Read More...

Marvel Studios is currently hard at work on "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers," but there are plenty of other characters in the company's catalogue that are likely to wind up on the big screen at some point in the near future — like Doctor Strange, for instance.

An official announcement has yet to be made, but both Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Stan Lee himself have name-checked the character as having plenty of cinematic potential. But casting Stephen Strange isn't an easy feat — you need someone who can take the mysticism and magic seriously while still lending some much-needed charm and charisma to the role.

Still, if anybody could slip on the Cloak of Levitation and convince moviegoers to follow his strange exploits, it's one of these five actors. Read More...

FROM MOVIES BLOG: A few months ago, Viggo Mortensen told MTV that he could see his "Lord of the Rings" character, Aragorn, popping up in a film meant to bridge the stories between "The Hobbit" and the "Rings" trilogy. The only problem there is that the bridge chapter is looking increasingly unlikely.

Then again, maybe not. "Hobbit" director Guillermo del Toro may have ruled out the possibility of directing the bridge movie, but that doesn't mean someone else -- even Peter Jackson himself -- can't step in to do it. That's what I find most interesting about Mortensen's words in a recent interview with ComingSoon. It sounds like he's clearer on the franchise plans since we last spoke from him, and still that talk of a bridge film persists...
