Wanted

America is officially in the crosshairs of a “Wanted” sequel. Late September we learned that original writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt had been secured to reanimate the stagnant state of “Wanted 2,” the sequel to 2008’s Timur Bekmambetov-directed, special effects laden action-thriller.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Hass and Brandt perused the process of their writing projects. Touching on “Wanted 2”, the pair — who shared screenwriting credits on the first “Wanted” with Chris Morgan—seem to indicate that the sequel’s pre-production has finally hit its pace.

Asked if the team were ever inspired to try directing their material themselves, Brandt used their current gig on “Wanted 2” to explain the goal of writing to a certain director’s strengths — a director they hope, in this case, is Timur Bekmambetov.

Mark Millar has never been short on ideas. Over the years the comic scribe has led large-scale initiatives within the Marvel Universe. His creator-owned line of various publisher projects collected under the title “Millarworld” has seen Hollywood success with adaptations of “Wanted” and “Kick-Ass,” while renewed studio interest in “War Heroes” indicates that the mutually beneficial relationship is not soon to end.

It's no surprise then that Millar is starting his own film and television production company, "Millarworld Productions," with a focus on filming within his home country of Scotland. In a high energy interview with The Scottish Sun, Millar states that he feels passionately about doing in Scotland what Peter Jackson did in New Zealand with "Lord of the Rings."

Wanted 2Just as we were starting to move on, all of the sudden we're "Wanted" again.

A sequel to the 2008 action thriller from director Timur Bekmambetov is once again gearing up after several years of fits and starts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, original "Wanted" writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt have been targeted to bring a sequel to life at Universal.

Haas and Brandt, who shared screenwriting credits with Chris Morgan on "Wanted," will reportedly shape the sequel based on work already accomplished by screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos, who was hired for "Wanted 2" in 2009.

Last we heard from the "Wanted" camp, plans for a sequel remained in limbo, without even star James McAvoy sure of the project's status.

With "Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov currently hard at work on "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," MTV News made sure to ask his producing partner Jim Lemley whether a sequel to the 2008 hit starring McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman was still in the works.

"We still talk sometimes about 'Wanted 2,'" he told MTV News. "We want to try and continue that story because it's a very interesting one for us." Read More...

"Wanted" fans have been clamoring for a sequel since we first saw Angelina Jolie snatch James McAvoy up for the car ride of his life. However, despite story developments that would make it rather difficult for at least one character to return in a sequel, the film plays pretty fast and loose with the comic book source material — enough so that a sequel could be possible, or at least that's what "Wanted" writer Mark Millar has been teasing us with for a few years.

In any case, McAvoy can't escape questions about the possibility, even during interviews for "X-Men: First Class."

"I don't know what's happening," the Scottish actor told IGN. "I know that the script came out a while back which I don't think they were happy with in the end." Read More...

Mark MillarNothing’s ever a sure thing in Hollywood — even the most bankable actors, actresses and directors can have flops. When their film hits theaters, there's always a chance of failure, but when you make it a comic book movie, the risk seems even higher.

So far, Mark Millar has an impressive batting average with film adaptations of his comics “Wanted” and “Kick-Ass” grossing close to $440 million dollars worldwide, not including DVD sales.

Granted, “Wanted” did have one very valuable asset on it’s side: Angelina Jolie. But seeing as how she’s confirmed that she won't return for the sequel, will it even happen?

“Well, 'Wanted 2' is complicated,” Millar told MTV News while promoting his recently launched "CLiNT" comics magazine. “There’s no book [for] 'Wanted 2.' I would like to do [the movie]. I say if it happens, great. If it doesn’t, I’m not bothered.” Read More...

Back in April, a rumor surfaced that "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart was in the running to play the female lead in a sequel to "Wanted," Timur Bekmambetov's follow-up to the 2008 film based on Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' comic book series.

When MTV News sat down with Stewart during the press junket for "Twilight: Eclipse," we checked in with the actress to find out if there was any truth to the rumor that she'll be following in Angelina Jolie's footsteps alongside returning "Wanted" star James McAvoy.

"It's weird to answer questions like this," said Stewart, who simply stated that "the only two projects that I am confirmed in now are 'On The Road' and '[Twilight:] Breaking Dawn.'" Read More...

Kristen StewartWhile it certainly appears that Angelina Jolie's days as a "Wanted" woman are over, director Timur Bekmembatov is already eying a replacement killer in the form of "Twilight" leading lady Kristen Stewart.

According to E! Online, Stewart is Bekmambetov's top choice to replace Jolie in "Wanted 2," pitting her against the returning James McAvoy as reluctant assassin Wesley Gibson. If hired, Stewart would play "a young, ass-kicking assassin in the Fraternity."

Contacted for comment, Stewart's representatives did not respond by time of publication. Read More...

One thing's for sure: if/when "Wanted 2" hits theaters, Angelina Jolie will not be taking a shot at rising from the dead.

MTV News caught up with "Wanted" co-creator Mark Millar at the South By Southwest Film Festival to get his thoughts on how the "Wanted 2" story and its fraternity of assassins will move forward without Jolie's character, and why the answer could lie in the introduction of other fraternities around the world.

"They killed off the most recognizable character, but I thought it was great to do that," Millar told MTV News. "It was so ballsy to kill off the one person you didn't expect to die." Read More...

Angelina JolieLast week, word broke that Angelina Jolie had turned down the chance to reprise her role as Fox in "Wanted 2." Despite initial rumors claiming that the potential sequel had been shelved by Universal, "Wanted" co-creator Mark Millar has indicated the film will proceed without Jolie.

“'Wanted 2' will be certainly going ahead, because the first one made too much money for them not to do a sequel," explained Millar during an interview with STV. "What I heard was that there’s filming this year for a release at the end of next year, so the plot that they had will have some modifications now. Her character will have to be written out completely. We’ll see what happens, I don’t know, it changes every day. Again, things get so out of your hands with film because 300 people are involved, whereas with comics it’s just you and your artist." Read More...
