Wanted - Angelina Jolie"Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov has made no secret of his desire to bring Angelina Jolie back for the sequel to last year's hit film based loosely on the comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. However, her character's final scene in the film made such a return unlikely—if not impossible.

While Jolie previously told MTV News she didn't think her character, Fox, would be making a comeback for "Wanted 2," it's worth noting that this is still the world of comic books—and as all fans know, no character stays away very long in comics. In fact, when we spoke to Bekmambetov recently, he not only reiterated his plans to bring Jolie's character back, but he said they already have a plan for how it's going to happen.

WantedThe curving bullets and hot kisses of "Wanted" could be returning to theaters quicker than anyone expected. The sequel, written by "Pooh's Heffalump" writer Evan Spiliotopoulos, reportedly has a finished script turned in, and the original comic book property's writer, Mark Millar, claims production is on a fast track.

Millar predicted that shooting for "Wanted 2" could begin within eight weeks' time, according to SuperHeroHype.com. The high-profile comics scribe, who created "Wanted" with artist J.G. Jones, offered his positive assessment of the the movie's productions timeline at Comic-Con this week during a conversation about "Kick-Ass." Read more...

Spider-Man & BatmanLast week's poll asked readers to vote on the comic book movie sequel they're most eager to see, and when all the votes were tallied, Hollywood heavy-hitters Spider-Man and Batman both emerged victorious with the most-wanted follow-ups to their respective films.

In the end, "Spider-Man 4" and "Batman 3" tied for the top vote-getters in the poll, each nabbing 29 percent of the total votes. However, Jon Favreau's just-wrapped "Iron Man 2" followed closely on their tails, tallying 26 percent of the votes.

After the top three options, it wasa big jump down to the rest of the poll's choices. Read more...

Yesterday, “Wanted” director Timur Bekmabetov told a Russian news outlet that he planned to bring Angelina Jolie back for the upcoming sequel to last year's hit film loosely based on the Mark Millar and J.G. Jones series. While the news had everyone who's seen the film buzzing for fairly obvious reasons (given her character's final scene), there were a few other reasons we were a bit skeptical of the news around Splash Page HQ.

Take, for instance, this interview conducted with Jolie during the run-up to the "Wanted" premiere last year:

While Jolie seems to indicate in no uncertain terms that her character isn't likely to return for a sequel, there's always the chance that she was being coy and didn't want to reveal anything about the plot, right? Well, that's not all that has us scratching our heads. Read more...

Wanted 2How do you make a sequel to a movie in which almost every main character winds up dead? According to one report from a Russian news outlet, "Wanted" director Timur Bekmabetov plans to answer that very question by bringing back Angelina Jolie and possibly others in the next installment.

Bekmabetov told RIA Novosti, a Russian news site, that he's already begun preparations for "Wanted 2," a sequel to the 2008 actioneer based on Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' comic book. According to the site, the director promised the return of Jolie, despite her character's send-off in the first movie. Read more...

'Wanted 2'Last month, it came as a bit of surprise that a new screenwriter would be brought in to script the sequel to "Wanted," 2008's live-action adaptation of Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' comic book series. The studio's choice of "Pooh's Heffalump" writer Evan Spiliotopoulos as the scribe for the next chapter of the violent, R-rated tale came as an even bigger surprise.

While Millar has already seen fit to voice his support for Spiliotopoulos' role in crafting the "Wanted 2" story, I spoke to original "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan to get some details on why the change was made.

"I'm actually still involved with 'Wanted,'" Morgan told MTV News, explaining that his current workload made it necessary for him to step aside from primary writing duties on the film. However, he'll still have input on the sequel's creative development -- which includes the "global" angle to the story he revealed last year. Read more...

'Wanted'To the surprise of many, "Pooh's Heffalump" screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos was announced last week as the new writer for "Wanted 2," the sequel to the 2008 film based on Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' comic book series.

Spiliotopoulos appears to have taken over the writing duties from original "Wanted" movie scribe Chris Morgan, who told MTV News back in November that he was working on a more "global" story for the sequel.

Earlier this week, Millar addressed concerns about the former "Pooh" writer on his website's message boards, explaining the basis for Spiliotopoulos' selection and teasing that there's blockbuster-level money at play in the development of "Wanted 2." Read more...

Wanted 2When "Wanted" proved to be a surprising financial success, it was clear that moviegoers wanted more. But with Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' graphic novel limited in issues, it's hard to identify source material that could be mined for a sequel. But, as we learned from "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan last year, that wasn't going to hinder a return to the story's supervillain-filled world.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Spiliotopoulos, co-writer of "Pooh's Heffalump Movie," has been pegged as the screenwriter for "Wanted 2." The sequel's script stems from a story idea by Morgan, previously tapped to be penning the sequel. Read more...

CommonHis day job has made Common a hit with the critics and kept him at the top of the charts over the last several years -- a trend that seems likely to continue when his eagerly-anticipated "Universal Mind Control" comes out this week. But moviegoers have had their own epiphany while enjoying his soulful presence in "Smokin’ Aces," “Street Kings” and “American Gangster,” and the Chicago-born rapper is holding out hope that his most recent gig might give him his first film franchise.

“I was really just glad to be in that flick, with Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, and I really admire James McAvoy,” he told us recently of “Wanted,” his eye-popping action film that hits DVD and Blu-Ray this week. (Here's a list of the "Wanted" DVD and Blu-Ray special features.) “It was an honor to be around them, and to be filming in Prague, and then for the movie to come out and be so successful was great.”

Terrence Stamp told us awhile back that his character was written in specifically for sequel purposes, and screenwriter Chris Morgan has been hired to write "Wanted 2." But, after Angelina Jolie offered her own input into the conclusion of “Wanted,” the franchise seems to have painted itself into a corner.

SPOILER ALERT: Want to know why? Keep reading. Read more...

James McAvoy in 'Wanted'When "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan first helped bring to life the ultra-violent story about a world where supervillains had kicked out the good guys, he had some pretty impressive source material in Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' critically praised graphic novel. While there won't be the same ready-made reference for "Wanted 2," the writer told MTV that shouldn't be cause for concern among fans. And he should know, since he's the one writing it.

"Yes, I will be writing it," confirmed Morgan. "I'm actually leaving this conversation with you to go to a meeting with the director, Timur [Bekmambetov], and we're talking about the story." Read more...
