WatchmenLast week, we asked MTV readers to vote on their favorite comic book movie of 2009, and now the votes are in!

With more than 50 percent of the total votes, "Watchmen" was the top choice among fans — and by a wide margin, too. When all the votes were tallied, Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation of the classic Alan Moore graphic novel was the clear-cut winner over "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which received half as many votes to nab the second-place spot.

However, while many predicted a victory by Rorschach, Nite Owl and the rest of "Watchmen" cast, there were some surprises in the final vote — namely among the animated features. Read More...

X-Men Origins: WolverineIt's that time of year when we run down our favorite projects from the world of comics and comic book movies, folks. And while that's all well and good, this year I want to make sure Splash Page readers have a say in all the "Best Of" madness, too!

Next week, we're rolling out bunches of "Best Of" lists covering our favorite books, series, films and anything else that made big waves around Splash Page HQ over the last year — and along with rolling out our own picks, we'll reveal your pick for the best comic book movie of 2009.

Was "Wolverine" the best there was at what it did (this year)? Has distance (and the rest of the year's films) made you fonder of "Watchmen"? Or was one of this year's animated movies (i.e., "Hulk Vs." or "Green Lantern: First Flight") better than anything the live-action world had to offer? Read More...

"Whiteout" hits theaters today, and the long-awaited adaptation of Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber's graphic novel features Kate Beckinsale as Carrie Stetko, the U.S. Marshal who finds herself racing against time to discover the identity of a murderer in one of the most remote locations in the world: Antarctica.

Earlier this year, we talked to Rucka about the film based on his ice-cold murder mystery, and now we have some thoughts from the star herself about the source material, the controversial changes made to the original story, and her character's famous (to fans of the book, at least) injury—and ambiguous sexuality.

We also get the skinny on the possibility that we'll see the rest of Rucka and Lieber's three-book series brought to the screen. Read More...

WhiteoutFROM MOVIES.MTV.COM: It's probably not director Dominic Sena's fault that his new snowbound thriller, "Whiteout," suggests so many tantalizing genre directions in which the movie itself, unfortunately, doesn't go. The picture's general thrill deficit, however — well, that would seem to be Sena's purview.

Early on there's a scene in which U.S. Marshall Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale) enters her quarters at the Antarctic research station where she's the lone law-enforcer and strips to her underwear, allowing the camera to ogle her behind as she bends over. Then she steps into a shower, affording us one of those shot-through-frosted-glass views of Beckinsale's (or somebody's) vaguely nude body luxuriating in the steamy spray.

Naturally, we think: Okay, this is gonna be a movie with some R-rated skin. But no. The Antarctic, being a place where temperatures can plunge to 100 degrees below zero, is the land of heavily layered clothing, of the sort in which Beckinsale spends much of the rest of the film.

WhiteoutIt's a good time to be Greg Rucka right about now, and an even better time to be a fan of the acclaimed writer. In addition to the newly announced "Queen & Country" film in development, Rucka's creator-owned "Whiteout," co-created and illustrated by Steve Lieber, is finally coming to the big screen in a few weeks.

In anticipation of the theatrical debut for "Whiteout" on September 11, Warner Bros. has released a gallery of images from the Antarctica-set thriller.

"Whiteout" stars Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht, two faces that are hardly unfamiliar to the comic book world. Read More...

Just a few weeks ago we got our first look at the trailer for "Whiteout," the upcoming adaptation of Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber's brilliant series about the first murder in the remote reaches of Antarctica.

Now, Warner Bros. has released the first official one-sheet promo poster for "Whiteout," which hits theaters September 11. Featuring the tagline "See Your Last Breath," the poster offers an iced-over look at the film's main character, U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, as played by "Underworld" actress Kate Beckinsale.

WhiteoutOne month after it first leaked online, the official trailer for "Whiteout" -- complete with a shot of Kate Becksindale in the shower -- made its return to the Internet legally today, just time for Comic-Con. The adaptation of Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber's graphic novel stayed intact, though the new version appears much cleaner than the one that appeared, disappeared, and resurfaced over several cycles in June.

The deep rusty-voiced tagline is still there: "Nature never intended for you to survive here, but this Fall, nature is not the only thing to fear." Read More...

Kate BeckinsdaleThe ever-delayed movie adaptation of Greg Rucka's "Whiteout," whose artist Steve Lieber was Splash Page's first "Cover Artist," may finally be nearing a theatrical release, if a leaked trailer this week is any indication.

Though the trailer was taken down, the snowcapped glimpse of stars Kate Beckinsdale and Gabriel Macht still tags the film for release in 2009. That should please Rucka, who as of New York Comic Con earlier this year seemed excited about director Dominic Sena's attention to detail. Read More...

BookExpo AmericaBookExpo America, the largest convention in North America for publishers of printed media, arrived in town this weekend -- along with a ridiculous amount of books to show off to retailers, press and anyone else who happened to be wandering the floors.

While the sheer number of projects on display during the show was no surprise, there were a few items with ties to the comics and movie/television worlds around the convention floor that did stand out for one reason or another. When I finally managed to haul them back to Splash Page HQ, I spread a few of them out for a photo -- which I've posted here along with a few thoughts about each project and why I picked it up. 'Whiteout'One of the more intriguing adaptations that's been floating around comic book movie circles the past few years is the often-delayed Antarctic murder mystery "Whiteout," created by Greg Rucka and former Splash Page cover artist, Steve Lieber. Originally scheduled to hit theaters in early 2008, the film was ultimately pushed back to a current release date of September 11 of this year.

And while fans anticipating the film have made do with the sporadic-at-best "Whiteout" teaser posters and "Whiteout" publicity stills, it certainly hasn't soured Rucka's excitement for the upcoming adaptation. In fact, the writer is hoping that the film spawns a possible franchise.

"We’ve always thought that Carrie [Stetko]’s story had three parts," Rucka told MTV News. "The third one -- which was always going to be the last one -- addresses the idea of how this woman who has had this very intimate relationship with Antarctica ends up leaving." Read More...
