The WolverineNow that Darren Aronofsky is no longer directing "The Wolverine," the field is wide open for another filmmaker interested in tackling Logan's second solo adventure.

Way back in September 2010, before Aronofsky was confirmed for the gig, we suggested five directors we thought would be good for the project (he was one of them). In the months that since, we've learned more about the film and, well... let's just say it's time to revise our list.

After much debate around Splash Page HQ, we've come up with a list of five filmmakers we'd like to see behind the camera when Wolverine heads to Japan. Read More...

We're still reeling from the news that Darren Aronofsky has departed "The Wolverine," and there's still no word on how the change-up will affect the film's development.

Last we heard, "The Wolverine" shooting was set to kick off in New York City in July before heading overseas to Japan, where a large portion of the story is said to be set. In preparation for the coming shoot, a casting call was recently sent out for several of the film's lead and supporting roles, though obviously the top spot goes to Hugh Jackman, who again returns to play the Marvel Comics mutant in his own solo adventure.

There are eight roles in all that need to be filled, four each for lead and supporting, according to a report on Disney Film Auditions. Read More...

Darren AronofskyVery bad news, Wolverine fans. Almost four months to the day after Darren Aronofsky confirmed a two-year deal with 20th Century Fox that would start with him directing "The Wolverine," a follow-up to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the "Black Swan" filmmaker is bowing out of the production.

Aronofsky pegs his departure to the production's lengthy shooting schedule, which will keep him out of the country for too long, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Franchise star Hugh Jackman is still on board, and Fox remains committed to making the movie happen under the supervision of a new director.

Aronofsky and Fox issued a joint statement, which pretty much lays out everything you need to know about his exit from the project. Read More...

"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky has his hands full these days with the premiere of his dark, psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, but once the dust settles, he'll take on a different type of dark story with "The Wolverine," the sequel to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

In fact, when MTV News spoke to Aronofsky at the premiere of "Black Swan," he said he's three weeks away from diving into Logan's next big-screen adventure.

"To be honest, I haven't really started working on it," said Aronofsky of his current status with regard to "The Wolverine." "I haven't even started to put my brain into it." Read More...

The WolverineAs if it wasn't already officially official, now it is officially official: 20th Century Fox has confirmed that Darren Aronofsky is directing "The Wolverine," the second solo movie starring Hugh Jackman as the claw-popping Canadian mutant.

If you're wondering why it took so long for Fox to confirm Aronofsky's involvement in the Marvel Comics adaptation, it appears that there's a perfectly good explanation.

According to a press release, Aronofsky and his Protozoa Pictures production company have agreed to a two-year overall deal with the studio, which sees Protozoa developing and producing films for 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures. Aronofsky's first priority, of course, is directing "The Wolverine," which heads into production in April next year. Read More...

WolverineDarren Aronofsky is not directing "Wolverine 2."

Oh, don't break out the Kleenex just yet — I'm just overexaggerating. Yes, Aronofsky is still attached to Hugh Jackman's second shot at a "Wolverine" solo title, but the film won't be called "Wolverine 2" as many have anticipated over the past several months. Instead, Aronofsky's film is simply titled "The Wolverine."

The "Black Swan" director spoke with Hit Fix and confirmed the new title, insisting that there won't be a number attached to his "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" sequel. In fact, Aronofsky doesn't even view "The Wolverine" as a sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," describing the film as a "one-off." Read More...

Hugh JackmanIf you've ever found yourself envious of the fast-healing adamantium-laced mutant known the world over as Wolverine, here's your chance to spend a day in his shoes.

Charity Buzz is providing fans with the opportunity to get in on an early morning training session alongside "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman at a private gym in New York City at some point between now and spring of next year.

The winner of the auction would have the chance to train side-by-side with Jackman and his fitness instructor Don Scott of Jim Karas Personal Training — the same team that got Jackman into shape for "X-Men: The Last Stand" — for a one hour workout. Read More...

Wolverine 2"Wolverine 2" is getting closer to reality as Hugh Jackman sharpens his claws and Darren Aronofsky inches ever closer towards the director's chair. But there are other roles remaining to be filled on the sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," including the film's cast outside of Jackman.

Sadly, we don't have any casting announcements for you today, but here's a nice consolation prize: a list of rumored characters that will appear in the "Wolverine" sequel. Pajiba reports on such a list, and while the inclusion of these characters is far from official, it's certainly an interesting assortment if the rumors prove to be true.

Check out some of the rumored characters after the jump, but beware of some potential spoilers! Read More...

Wolverine 2After weeks upon weeks of rumors and speculation, it's now (mostly) safe to consider it official: straight from Hugh Jackman's mouth comes word that Darren Aronofsky is indeed directing "Wolverine 2."

The "Black Swan" director's approach to the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" sequel will be, according to Jackman, quite "out of the box" and potentially "the best one yet" of all the "X-Men" films the Australian actor has starred in so far.

"I really do feel that," Jackman told New York Magazine of Aronofsky's enlistment in the "Wolverine" franchise. "I feel this is going to be very different." Read More...

Wolverine"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky's attachment to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2" remains likely but uncertain, and until an official announcement is made, Aronofsky Alerts remain in full effect on the "Wolverine" front. And according to the latest alert, the director isn't just inching closer to a deal — he's closer to a start date and a shooting location as well.

Deadline reports that Aronofsky's deal with 20th Century Fox is "close enough that discussion has turned to shooting the sound stage portions of the film in New York so the filmmaker and Hugh Jackman don't have to inconvenience their families."

When New York filming is complete, the production would head to Japan to shoot the rest of the sequel, reportedly based on the "Wolverine" comics created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. Read More...
