Bryan SingerLast week’s announcement that Bryan Singer will return to direct “X-Men: First Class” has sparked speculation about which characters will appear in the film — especially since Singer has indicated that the focus will be on Professor Xavier and Magneto during their 20s. However, given the age of Magneto in this film, a “Magneto” solo movie may no longer be in the cards.

“This story would probably utilize some of the 'Magneto' story because it deals with a young Magneto,” explained Singer during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “So it might supercede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust.”

MagnetoRecent comments from "X-Men" producer Lauren Shuler Donner have cast some doubt on the future prospects of "X-Men Origins: Magneto," the David Goyer-penned origin story focusing on the mutant menace's early years.

Donner said that while Goyer's script is "brilliant," the chances of the movie actually making it to theaters are dwindling. Certainly, it's on the lowest rung of an "X-Men" ladder that already consists of a "Wolverine" sequel, a "Deadpool" solo movie and "X-Men: First Class."

Speaking with MTV News, Goyer's thoughts regarding the "Magneto" adaptation surprisingly mirrored Donner's own—in other words, the "Batman Begins" scribe believes that "Magneto" should be on the back-burner. Read More...

MagnetoIf you weren't a fan of my recent casting call for "X-Men Origins: Magneto," don't worry—it's very likely that none of those actors will get the chance to play the villainous mutant, as the movie itself might never get made.

"Magneto" producer Lauren Shuler Donner gave Empire Online an update on the highly anticipated "X-Men" spin-off, saying that while screenwriter David Goyer's script is "brilliant," it's likely that the film won't ever see the light of day.

"I'm not sure that film is going to be made," she admitted. "The studio has a wealth of potential stories, and they have to stand back and decide which ones to make. And Magneto, I think, is at the back of the queue. Maybe it'll get made in five years—who knows?" Read More...

MagnetoGiven recent comments from Sir Ian McKellen about his involvement (or lack thereof) in the upcoming "X-Men Origins: Magneto" film from Fox, it's time to face the inevitable—Magneto is going to be recast. This was already a virtual certainty due to the story's purported focus on the Master of Magnetism's more youthful days, but McKellen's words confirm the need for a new, younger actor.

Recasting Magneto is difficult for a number of reasons. For one, McKellen already played him so expertly that an actor of his quality is absolutely essential—and not only that, but it'd be a good idea to find someone who looks like they could age into McKellen's likeness, which is very tricky. For that reason, I think it's more important to focus on finding an excellent, fitting actor for the role, rather than selecting an actor based on his likeness to McKellen.

When and if "X-Men Origins: Magneto" gets underway, I think any one of these five actors has what it takes to bring the magnetically-inclined mutant back to the big screen. Read More...

MagnetoEvery "X-Men" fan under the sun is waiting to hear what the franchise's next move is going to be. Will Fox pursue "Deadpool" next or will they pursue "X-Men: First Class" instead? Heck, David Goyer recently suggested that "X-Men Origins: Magneto" could be up before too long.

Still, if "Magneto" does make its way to theaters within the next couple of years, it's unlikely that actor Ian McKellen will assume the magnetic mutant's mantle for a fourth time, if only because nobody has supplied him with a screenplay yet.

"There's meant to be a 'Magneto' script floating around," McKellen told Empire Online. "[But] I've not read it, so I suspect it wouldn't involve me." Read More...

MagnetoDirector Gavin Hood got a remarkably large cast of mutants in the script for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," but when asked which missing character in the X-Men's world he would like to direct, he dropped the name of a villain who's already appeared in three films films: Magneto.

David Goyer has been the popular name mentioned to direct "X-Men Origins: Magneto," but if the "Dark Knight" writer finds himself committed when the project finally comes together, Hood says he'd be willing to step behind the camera.

"I think the character of Magneto is still a phenomenally interesting character," Hood told MTV News while discussing last week's release of "Wolverine" on DVD and Blu-Ray. Read More...

MagnetoRecently, "The Dark Knight" scribe David Goyer weighed in on the status of "Super Max" and even a fourth "Blade" film. Another superhero—or supervillain, rather—Goyer's been connected to with big-screen plans in the works is the Master of Magnetism himself: Magneto.

Goyer spoke with MTV News about the long rumored "X-Men Origins: Magneto" project, and while the filmmaker acknowledged its prospects, he also mentioned that "Magneto" is just one in a long line of potential X-films.

"They're still thinking about doing it," Goyer revealed to MTV News. "They're definitely looking into doing other X-Men spinoffs." Read More...

Plastic ManIt's hardly a secret that the Wachowski brothers are into geek culture, but they're particularly pivotal in the comic book arena thanks to their work on "V for Vendetta" with director James McTeigue. The online rumor mill has suggested McTeigue and the Wachowskis' involvement in some other comic properties -- but according to McTeigue himself, fans shouldn't get their hopes too high.

McTeigue spoke with SlashFilm recently about his rumored connections to a variety of superhero projects, including "Plastic Man," "X-Men Origins: Magneto" and the untitled "Superman" reboot. The "Ninja Assassin" director said that the reports were off-base for the most part, but he's keeping one of those rumors in play for the time being. Read More...

Deadpool vs. WolverineLast week, we asked you which of the potential movies involving Marvel's X-Men you'd most like to see, and after a week of voting, it looks like we have a winner for the title of "Most-Wanted X-Men Movie."

With more than 30 percent of the total votes, Ryan Reynolds' recently announced "Deadpool" spin-off movie was the favorite among a fairly large number of voters. Splash Page readers came out in force to support the ol' Merc With A Mouth, and it sounds like they're not letting the character's much-debated debut in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" dampen any of their enthusiasm for the character. Wolverine and DeadpoolYesterday, we reported on "X-Men Origins: Magneto" writer/director David Goyer's comments regarding the scheduling of various X-Men movies after the success of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at the box office. With a sequel to "Wolverine" planned and a "Deadpool" spin-off movie green-lit almost immediately after the first "Wolverine" box office report arrived, there's now some uncertainty about when we'll see previously announced films like "X-Men Origins: Magneto" or "X-Men: First Class" go into production.

Here at Splash Page HQ, we're wondering which of the X-Men films you'd like to see first. Are you hoping for more of Ryan Reynolds and the "Merc with a Mouth" before diving into the origins of the "Mutant Master of Magnetism"? Would you rather see a Logan-less team of X-Men coming together for the first time, or more of Hugh Jackman's adamantium-filled adventures? Read More...
